Things to do about drivetrainloss?
 

Since the Mustang has a significant % drivetrainloss, (I read that an ford expert claimed it is 20-22 %) I suppose a good way to get more hp is to do something about that loss!? But what can you do to reduce the drivetrainloss? An aluminium flywheel and driveshaft is a start. But what can you do about the gearbox? I suppose thats where most of the horses gets lost there on their way to the rear wheels?! Do you have to buy an entire new gearbox? And if so...where can you buy it :)?
Alot of questions...but I really whant to know!

Drive train losses have a lot to do with friction also.Lightening the driveshaft and flywheels fool the car into thinking it's got more HP than it really has.
IE:If you change to more slippery lubes and keep the iron parts the car will be faster on top end than a car with less slippery lubes and an aluminum driveshaft and flywheel.Theoretically only,the difference is negligible on a street car.
Anything you do to lessen the weight of the car will make it quicker.This goes for things that spin or things that don't.

by the numbers that doesn't really work out. Either that or Ford sandbagged the mustang's power rating bad.

It's been pretty well statistically proven that it's eating about 15% on 5sp and 20% on autos given the factory rating. There's nothing special about fords or mustangs in particular that makes them eat more power in the driveline than any other car.

how on earth have you come to that figure?

Yeah, unless you put your engine itself on the dyno, then put everything back together and put the whole car on a dyno...

and that would be plum silly.
