mechanic refuses to install headers
my mechanic told me that he refuses to install my headers for me because "they are illegal, and never fit the right way and cause problems to put on."
is this true? anyone have problems with certain headers? i have the BBK full length. |
There fine, just go somewhere else he just doesnt wanna deal with the hassel of them.
|
i hope your right or im gona be pissssssssssed
|
he is just lazy, if he doesent want yer money go spend it elsewhere. he is full of ****.
as long as you keep yer cats(and in some places mufflers too) then it is totally legal. |
thats what i said, besides, my dad is a cop and he didnt think that was true either.
|
lol@a mechanic scared to put headers on.
|
I had a shop tell me they wouldn't install an O/R H-pipe because it wasn't street legal! You just gotta check around!!

yea lol o/r mid pipe is illeagle . . however i dont see any reason not to do it yourself so why even take it to a shop
|
That's true, the offroad, hence the name "offroad use only" is illegal to install on your car. If that shop puts on the no cat H or X pipe they will get fined heavily if caught. For all they know, if they don't know you, you are someone seeing if they will install something illegal. but some shops, they don't give a crap to install it.
About the headers, that guy new how much pain in the ass they are and didn't want to do it. excuses, that's all it was. |
If I was you I'd look elsewhere for a REAL mechanic. Headers are a bitch to do thats for sure. On the otherhand do you wrench at all? You should think about doing them yourself. Just think of all the new tools, jackstands stuff like that you can buy with the money you would of put out for the install. Then the PRIDE:pepper: of doing it yourself. Then with the extra money take your wife/gf/mom out to a nice dinner for blowing a whole day doing them.:beerchug:

He knows exactly what hes getting into and may have had troubles installing them previously. Id never be involved doing them again either. its a pain in the ass.
lol |
The headers might be illegal. If they don't have an EGR tube then it's pretty much the same as putting on a mid pipe with no cats. Not to mention headers are a HUGE pain in the ass.

it's illegal to install them at all in some states. California and I believe NY are really bad about it.
Yes, BBK are known to have some fitment issues. I know of a handful of sets around here that just wouldn't seal. They are a HUGE PITA to install but that's life. Midpipes are illegal to replace in general because it is illegal to remove a properly functioning catalytic converter and aftermarket catalytic converters are not legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles (some 1994 & 1995, and all 1996 and later vehicles). If you leave the stock cats in place they don't seem to mind but when has that ever been an option hahha. |
yea i live in new york though
|
then your mechanic is just covering his butt and being lazy. go to the next guy.
|
anyway, does anyone else on long island reccomend a place? besides Mustang Magic in deer park i mean.......they overcharge for labor.
