4.6l 2v valve to 4.6 4v swap
 

I am having my engine rebuilt (or buying an already completed crate engine) for my 98' gt. I will then turbo charge it. I was wondering what the cost would be to switch to the 4v and if it would be worth it? also are there in othe swaps that would be worth it.

honestly... I'd just buy a 400+HP crate engine and forget the turbo... save some $$$$

with that much power you'd need beef up the drivetrain too...

Like greg said A LOT. I know 3v2000GT(i think thats his name) just recently rebuilt his engine into a 3v. Im sure if you PM him he could maybe give a price range on how much it cost him for a 3v. But in my opinion if you have the money it is WELL worth it. I would definatley go for it, if you have the funds.

yep it would be a lot to convert it to a 4v, your better off just buying a mach 1 or cobra crate engine and just dropping it in there. Or......... you could do what i didconvert it into a 3v (2005+ GT engine) You can either go with stock 3v heads and cams or do what i did and put ported 3v heads and comp cams with the ported heads and cams you would be looking at 360-380rwhp on stock displacemnt and wirth a good tune. Since you are doing a full rebiuild you could get a stroker rotating assembly and increase the displacement and get more power

all together I spent about 5k on parts
subtract the heads and cams that i got and its around 3k for the 3v swap

Thats what I was planning to do, just buy a 4v crate engine, aftermarket heads, cams, intake manifold, and beef up the drive train. but what about the other cost, would i need a whole new computer, ignition, and all of that?

you will need a new comp and wiring harness, motor mounts, and remember you have to spend twice as much on cams because it is a dual overhead cam, heads will be more than a sohc, and the intake on the 4v's are pretty good i dont know of any after market 4v intakes, if you have money do it.. it will be sweet

Sorry but almost entirely WRONG.

Motor mounts are the same. Computer is the same (tune is totally different), wire harness is mostly different by little bits. There are a few 4v aftermarket intakes, Reichard Racing and Sullivan are the best.

4v is worth it in power. It's not that expensive but your cams will cost double. So will a valve job. Front cover items and all that will be several hundred bucks but they're one time purchase items. Turbo will be more worth it on 4v. 3v is a good option but a bit more involved with the ECU and wiring and intakes are a little harder to find.

i am doing a similiar swap. do you or anyone else know what kind of tuner will work good or is the best bet to go with a full stand alone?

diablo, SCT, etc... should work fine. As long as you can load a correct tune it shouldn't be that big an issue. That's for a 4v swap. If you do a 3v swap like 3v2000gt then you'll want to listen to him cuz he knows.
