Question about Cam Shafts??? Help

Alright I'm wanting to get new cams for my car. I read its a good start for power and even better if you plan on putting more mods and beef'n up your car. I'm not really sure what I am looking for on what cams I want. I've got a 99 gt 4.6l ...I need some help fellas:helpsmili

What are you're future plans for the car/ current mods? How much money do you have? What would you like out of a set of cams? Is your can an auto or 5 speed? All of these questions need to be answered first.

I just have a chip and cold air intake right now... I'm planning on putting a supercharge, different injecters, different gears. ect. Money really isnt a prob...I read in a magazine i believe it was "muscle mustangs and fast fords" that cams were a good start if you plan on putting adding horse power to your car and it gives you around 10 to 15 hourse alone. and my car is auto:wallbash:

if your auto your gonna need stall torque converter also. if your going to add supercharger you need blower cams everyone says good things about vt cams. keep in mind that just the supercharger will put you close to or at the limit stock shortblock. i suggest forged shortblock vt stage 2 cams and 3000 -3200 stall converter.:beerchug:

So is this what I am looking for then something like this
http://www.turbochargedpower.com/engine_packages.htm

(you have to school down a little bit to get in the 4.6 engines)

money not an object? Cool... easy then.

Do it all at once... it's easier to get the right parts if you do it as a total upgrade. Otherwise you'll run into compatibility issues along the way.

I'd use: DSS forged shortblock w/ forged crank, H-beams, forged 9:1 pistons, VT Stage 2 blower cams, reichard racing intake, Kenne Bell 2.2L blower w/ intercooler, spec stage 3 clutch, fidanza aluminum flywheel, T56 tranny, 31 spline diff and axles, cobra brakes, subframe connectors, Maximum Motorsports bilstein coil overs all around, cobra brakes, some sort of CAI, and a little testicle enlargement to supply the hormones you'll need to drive such a beast. Otherwise, wait till you get the blower and then do the cams.

I'd focus on suspension and braking before you get into power mods. that way your car is prepped to hand the new power to you in a way you can use and control it.

And yes... one of the 4.6 motors listed will suit you nicely. Don't go buying a race motor unless you're building a race car. It's not usually the best idea.

You forgot what kind of airfreshener to use. I think, pine with that setup!

dang i thought redneck would say somthing bout a 5.4l......lol

r3dn3ck 06-20-2006 06:32 PM

didn't seem appropriate. He seemed to know he wanted a blower. If he just wanted power NA, that's where the 5.4 comes into play.

:nono: :loser: :nono:

That kind of setup DEFINITELY requires a "Wild Coconut" or perhaps even a "Ravishing Raspberry". :shifty:
