i have a 2001 mustang gt with every single bolt on an a typhoon intake manifold on pre order i have ford racing shorty headers with magnaflow x an slp loudmouth for my exhaust i keep reading bout how long tubes are better an so forth but i just dont have 1000 or so bucks to drop an buy LT's an a shorty x or h right now i saw bassani have mid length headers wat do u guys think bout those an if i got the mid lengths can i still use my x pipe or do i need a shorty one ?

stock to midlengths might be marginal at best, but going from shorties to midlength may net you a few hp at the crank. Not worth a single penny IMO.

LT's or nothing at all.

I say cancel your order for the typhoon intake and get LT's which will yield more power than the intake.

Has there been any proven gains with this intake?

I don't think anyone has really tried it yet. The advertised gain with it was also with a Votech blower I believe

In tests on 4v cars the mid-length bassani headers (which are actually really just a few inches shorter than full on long tubes) have generated 20rwhp gains and smaller but visible tq gains. I've been there for a couple of them and they do seem to perform just like long tubes on our cars. I'd go for the bassani's myself.

I can't speak to the 2V performance but the mids for our engines seem to really be worth it. They're pretty easy to install but they do require welding. You would do well with them.

the typhoon intake is simply an aluminum version of the plastic stocker. Sure it flows a little better but it's the same design with the same basic limitations and power band. The HPS Hardball'r looks like a much better design with a massive plenum and it's only 2 pieces so there's fewer places for a gasket to rot.

The Typhoon showed 25hp gains but at very high RPM.

also i think im going to go the long tube direction an i found MAC longtubes for like 350 thats pretty cheap for long tubes but does anyone know if they would sound good with my slp setup or are they good quality etc etc?

Id hold off on the intake if I was you.

ditto... unless you put a blower on the car, don't bother with the intake. It's a 600 dollar conversation piece.


oh yeah, you need to cut and weld the mid-pipe to fit the mid-lengths. Like I said, they're damn near long tube length. IIRC bassani also sells a mid pipe that matches the mid-lengths but why bother when a saw and 5 minutes with the mig welder makes it all better.
