WHat is the loudest exhaust?

I saw another thread where the person stated they want throaty exhaust but not loud enough to set off car alarms and scare people away.

Well, that IS what i want! :)

So i got a 2004 Mustang GT, i had the H-pipe cut out and had a custom 3inch X pipe welded on with straight pipes catback. with 3 1/2 chrome tips. No mufflers here baby!

It is loud yeah, and i absolutly love it, even the popping after you you rev it up and let off. Burly. I know, some say redneck exhaust, but i like what i like ;)
Id DOES drone at highway speeds, but i dont take the highway too often. I plan on running dynamat under the carpet, in the doors, and in the trunk anyways, i figure that will cut a good amount of the droning out.

Tell ya what though, i have never set off a car alarm. I have a co-worker who had a Dodge Ram 1500 with straightpipes and when he was pulling out of the parking garage he could light up damn near every alarm within 50 feet.

WHen i rev it up, that just doesent happen. I cannot nearly hit the DB level that he could.

Granted, i dont want to be pissin off my neighbors when i come to and fro... to and fro, i like using that phrase

none the less, what is the LOUDEST exhaust setup?

Straight pipes was not nearly as loud as i expected it to be

If you want louder get a set of long tube headers and 2 1/2 the rest of the way with the biggest tips you can get or just dump the exhaust to the side behind the front tire. Since you have stock 2 1/4 tailpipe this is why its not as loud as it can be,get rid of all of the 2 1/4 piping.

Open headers! ;)

lol. what these guys said. but if you want it legal..... my setup is the loudest I've heard and i continue to get people on the road telling me that it's loud. It's very nice it higher rpm's but right at about 2500-3500 it can get annoying but I will put up sound clips as soon as SOMEONE TELLS ME HOW TO

venom 03-21-2005 05:51 PM

Make sure sound clip is not large in file size as it will not work keep it around 900kb. Most of my vids i have to reduce the quality so it looks like crap but the sound quality does not change.

What is producing back pressure for you?

dannyb785 03-22-2005 06:18 PM

who are you asking?

Jack The Ripper 03-23-2005 04:17 PM

on my setup the only thing offering backpressure is the cats.

it goes 2.25in to the cats, then goes to a 3in xpipe, goes back to 2.25in right before where it goes over the rear axel to the 3.5in chrome tips.

The effect of this that I noticed? Sounds damn good. I like that poppy sound though, i guess that is just more of a personal preference.

It seemed a little bit tired or sluggish on the low end, but the difference was very slight. On the higher end it seems a bit stronger, but not by a whole lot. After i put in the K&N the responce really tightened back up, whatever i lost from the exhaust was restored and improved over stock, and the higher end is noticably stronger. Nothing jaw dropping, but definatly noticable.

I had my buddy drive it around the block a couple days back so i could hear it. It always sounds different inside the car. <laugh> Standing out while he tore around the block really put a grin on my face though. The stock sound on the GT's is just pathetic if you ask me. Muscle cars are not supposed to be polite. <laugh>

long tubes, some kind of o/r pipe (h or x) and straight through style mufflers such as Magnapacks or SLP's.

04DarkShadowGT 03-26-2005 04:35 PM

Full SLP is probably the loudest setup. However some say its just loud with no substance.

I think its ok but too loud.

My borla sounds good with stock H and headers. I am going to get a MRT H with cats or a prochamber with cats this summer.
