PI swap problem

I have a 98 GT and I'm currently getting a pi swap done, and my mechanic just told me that the PI intake manifold isn't fitting my block. He says when he puts it in place there is a 2 inch gap between the intake ports and the cylinder head ports because the manifold is too big for the block. Can anyone tell me wut this can be? I bought the mainfold from modular depot product number M-9424-P46. I don't understand why this isnt fitting so if anyone can explain to me what went wrong I would appreciate it.

As long as your putting PI heads on there, then that intake will fit with no problems. That doesn't make sense that there's a gap. The pi and non pi heads are the exact same minus the shape of the intake ports. Tell the mechanic to turn the intake around, coolant passage goes to the front.

And that part number is for 4.6 PI intake, so it can't be bigger.

I am using the PI head i bought them from JEGS. When i go to see the car tomorow i'll see if he was placing it the wrong way, hopefully that was the problem because I can't see it being anything else.

PI= Performance Improvement

Ford gave them that name to distinguish from the non PI 96-98 from the 99 and up PI heads and of course the PI heads flow alot better.

on the errata side, PI heads got smaller chambers, more lift from a new cam grind, bigger intake ports and I think slightly bigger valves. It sounds to me like your wrench failed to remove a tool or something he set in the valley of the block. There's no other way a 4.6 PI intake will fail to fit a 4.6 motor with PI heads. The intake is a snug fit in places but not that bad.

Yes double check the mechanic not sure i would let someone like that wrench on my car...
