grrr...cams wont go in
 

well after being on the phone all day with john at dynospeed said the cams wont work. vt stage 2 w/ comp springs. he said that the engine is tight and thinks i have ptv contact. i dont get it. this is why i bought these cams. i never heard of this prob. with these cams. he said the engine is in time and the sprocked does not seem to be one of the funky ones that ford had out of spec. dang this sux

i dont think those cames should have that problem...are u sure he put them in right? ..maybe u should PM christie (csledd)

eh.. I'm about 110% sure they know what they're doing when it comes to installing cams.

Maybe it's an issue with the Comp Springs then, because your cams came from the same batch as mine.. but I'm using Manley Nextek Springs /shrugs

I know there's suppose to be a million other people out there using Stage 2's with Comp Springs though.. so I dunno. I didnt' get Comp Springs because they don't advertise that they support the .560/.575 lift.. even though if you calculate out the measurements they actually do support it, that's why people recommend them. Hmm I dunno.

btw.. what year is your car?

its an 04. they said that after installing the cam followers on #1and2 cylinder they turned it over by hand and it was a little tight. i called jim at vt ant told him what is going on. i dont get it. surely my car is not the only car that cant run these cams. i never heard of a prob with these cams before. thats why i bought them.

I was reading a thread somewhere just a week or two ago that covered this. It seemed to suggest that PTV contact was an issue with many of the more aggressive cams.

I can't see how the springs would have anything to do with PTV issues until you get higher in the RPMs than just hand turning though. The cam, followers and valve height are (unless I'm pulling a stupid again and missing something) the only bits that should affect the gross lift. I didn't know about any sprockets that Ford b0rk3d but that's of great interest to me. Any info on that that's more specific? Years, trims, etc..

Would it help to advance or retard the cam a degree or two? I don't know of any adjustable cam gears that would allow it for 2V motors so I don't even know if it's possible.

Basically here is the problem. Comp puts a ~5* advance into their cams which is why so many people have PTV issues with them. On top of that, the stock stuff can be off by a certain amount. Adding all of that together and get can get some nasty PTV issues. VT does not grind any advance into their cams which is why there are so little PTV issues with them. Normally if people run into issues with them its because they installed them wrong. For example myself. When I installed them I didnt pull off the front cover, I tried using that stupid tool instead. Well without me knowing it the chains jumped how ever many links and I had PTV. Of course I didnt test for PTV before I turned the car on which was stupid on my part. Anyways, I figured out I had PTV by turning it over by hand and I was able to hear the valve hitting. I tore the car apart and retimed it and now I dont believe I have any problems. Im saying "believe" because I have not degreed my cams, nor have I checked the clearences. However, Im not hearing anything when I turn the car over, and my car has been sprayed numerous times on the dyno without any problems. I realize this is not the best way to go about it, but I dont have a choice at this time so please dont get on me about it, just learn from my mistakes. Fidanza and L&Mengines both make adjustable cam gears for our cars.

I couldnt deal with all of that so i paid 1200 for the install. 500 for the cams and 250 for the springs. Spent my whole return last year.

I installed my S/C but the cams where a bit out of my league.

we went a diff. direction with my car now. diff cams and a P1SC.

lol yea thats what i say. comp 260 cams, comp springs, p-1sc, 3 core intercooler, 42lbs. injectors, sct 90 mm maf, sct x-cal dyno tune, full 31 spline rear with aluminum girdle and driveshaft, and 3:73 gears:pepper: :pepper: :pepper: should get the car back in 3 weeks:punk:

hay i just noticed i have a 90 mm maximum motorsports maf lol. im a dork. its amazing how i go tho the shop for a simple cam install and i end up going in the direction i had planned in the 1st place. i was going to wait till next summer to to the internals but when i go to pick the car up i am going to get a quote on everything to do the motor. joe said he has a few customers running the same setup with around 450rwhp on stock internals but i told him to keep it under 420 with a rich tune. never know when i might get a bad tank of gas and then BOOM!!!!!
