Iridium sparks or normal?

Hi there folks, i have a problem with my stang 00 standard.

Like 4 months ago, i changed all the sparkplugs for iridium ones, i also removed the catalytic convertions, and added 2 magnaflow on the back. (im in mexico, so its not a problem)

Everything was kool, my stag sounds amazing and the power is great, but like 2 months ago the damn intake mainfold craked... and it was getting wet the #8 sparkplug, once i could get my hands on the ford racing intake mainfold i changed it.

But the car STILL have a problem, its like a "cof" if you see the car from behind, the sound comes from the left tube, its like "cof -cof"

I have tested all, plugs, cables and everything and still have the problem, so i was wondering if the iridium plugs are ok to keep, or should i change them for the stock ones (motorcraft).

Also once every month the damn "engine service soon" light comes up, and the codes are always the same, the rear o2 sensors.... but im SURE its bcuz the "cof" something is wrong and i cannot locate the damn problem and its driving me NUTZ... any1 had this problem? after replacing the mainfold? what else should i do? turn off the rear o2 sensors... what part of the car to check to FIX the damn "COFFiness"

Thanx for any info regarding this.. im really sad i want 100% the power back...

Hmm, I've had your problems before but don't know if anything I did will help you. But it can't hurt to try ....

The o2 sensors need to be changed with mil eliminators or by using one of those tuners, I think it's the sct or something ...
And for the cough thing, I had it happen when my spark plugs got water on them, so get an air blower and make sure they are nice and dry. Also it happened later when the plugs wen't bad . Stupid Bosch :bash: Motorcraft for me thanks :punk:

Bosch Plugs are absolutely horrible on a ford. Multiple ground straps do nothing.

I dont think that the plugs are the problem. I would pull them all out and take a look to see which one looks different than the others. When you find the one bad one then you know where to start looking for problems. Check your fuel system and make sure everything is good. Make sure that the fuel rails are bolted down cause sometimes they can come loose and leak a little fuel. If you have a CAI with the bend before the MAF, throw it away or sell it one. Also check your vaccum lines to make sure that they arent leaking air.

Other than the normal maintenece I dont know what else to try. If your definately not having mechanical problems (ticking noises, whining) than it has to be one of the things I listed. Just go over the whole engine and make sure everything is perfect.

Thanx for the info man, unfortunetly im not a mechaniacal guy... i fix computers and hardware but not engines lol!

I think the best option is to take it to the ford service and let them work... i mean they HAVE to know what to check and how... its expensive.. but i think thats my best option.. plus, with the info you guys told me, ill foward it to the manager of the service as an "introduction"

Thanx again Cya!

Why is a bend before the MAF a problem? I have never heard of this before.

Toss the plugs and put Copper's in there. They conduct better.

I had the same problem as you. I took off my catts and the check engine light came on and my car sounded like it was going to die. I also have iridium spark plugs. I also got a code reading the same thing. What my mechanic said was that the o2 sensors sensed that there was something wrong with the catts since they were "missing" and the computer changed the air/fuel mixes to try to compensate for the problem and it ends up screwing the entire thing. What fixed the problem was me buying a chip which gave me a tune and turned off the rear o2 sensors as well. 2 birds with one stone. - get a chip

DracoGT 04-11-2006 04:56 PM

Awsome! a guy over here on the mustang club told me the exact same thing... but what chip did you get? That same guy is selling me an used JET chip for Mustang 2000. What brand do you recommend?

WOW you got the saleen bodykit!!! awsome!!! i want it! ahahha some day, some day ill buy it, ill pay exessive shipping but ill get it!

p3s7_01 04-11-2006 07:02 PM

I got the SCT 4 bank chip from mustangtuning. I don't know much about the JET chip but many people that I've heard say, go with SCT. Yea...the Saleen bodykit is awesome it came stock with the car from the factory.
