Getting the most power out of a Mach I
 
Just so you know, this wont happen for atleast a couple years down the road, if ever... I just want to plan ahead so I know what to start researching.

I'm just wondering what is the best way to get big power out of the 4.6l 4v in the 2004 Mach I?

Supercharger? Turbocharger (does someone make one or would you have to make your own)? N/A? And what kinda of power are we talking (and money too)?

There are lots of routes you can go, but go to the www.mach1registry.com and join the forum and do a search .You can find out anything and everything that could possibly ever want to know about 03/04 Mach 1's.

Hell dude. That block has forged internals right? I'd get a blower with a 20lb boost!

Hell at 12psi and boltons you would probably would be pushing 450rwhp so could you imagine at 20psi!!!!

The Mach 1 engines do not have forged internals.

I'de go turbo route, i've seen some video's of some nasty Mach1's turbo! I'm looking to go twin t3/t4 50mm turbo's on my GT next winter.

I thought the Mach1 and Cobra's 4v's had forged internals.....

The only 4v modulars that come from the factory with forged internals are the 03/04 Cobra engine, the Ford GT engine, and the upcoming Shelby GT500 5.4 DOHC.

The manual has a forged crank, thats it

You could start off by doing a full exhaust, built rearend, a few suspension things, and induction. Long tube headers = $600, Midpipe = $180-$400 (depends on the manufaturer, coating/metal, and if you get cats), Catback=$400-$600, Weld in frame connectors = $150, Upper and Lower control arms = $500, 4.10 gear = $200, 31 spine axles = $250, Eaton differential = $400, JLT CAI = $200, SCT Xcal 2 tuner = $400, MGW shifter = $180, Drag radials = $300

Total (not including labor) = about $3,800
You should be running mid 12's with these bolt ons.

Then if you want to do a turbo, supercharger or nitrous that will be extra.
Supercharger = $4,500-$5,000 (Procharger, Paxton, Vortech)
Nitrous = $1,000 (NX)
Turbo = $7,000-$9,000 (i personally don't think a turbo is worth it unless you are going all out drag racing. it's too expensive and complicated)

Also, the stock compression is 10:1 which isn't very boost friendly. If you want to go the cheapest route and be in 11's, do the bolt ons and a 100 shot of nitrous. If you want to go faster you will need all forged internals.

if you wanted a huge amount of power...either a single T88 turbo or twin T70's would be nasty! We put a T70 on a friends drag civic and it's pushing just over 700WHP. Imagin what 2 will do on a v8!

at what rpm does he start to see boost and at what rpm does he see max boost? what psi is he running?

Vtec kicks at 5600rpm and boost goes sky high at 5700rpm, and within 1k rpms it gains over 200hp! when we last tuned it, it was on 19psi, were hoping here soon with new internals and more indepth tuning to see 800whp.

There are a couple options as far as power adder. I helped a buddy install a hellion turbo kit on his Mach 1 and he made 480rwhp through a auto on a very conservative tune and 8lbs of boost. Only other mod was a catback. Also I know KB was working on a blower for the Mach1 which still retained the shaker hood.

:banana: I'd be more than happy with that kinda of power! This isn't an all out drag car, this is my daily driver for the warm half of the year, and I'll only visit a drag strip maybe once or twice a year. I'm staying away from drag radials because they dont last very long on the street and I dont want to do anything permenant like weld in frame connectors.

Is 8 pounds of boost safe on a stock 4v?

8lbs of boost is safe with a good tune. On another note though weld in subframe connectors isn't a bad mod. I dont think I have ever heard of a person unhappy with subframes so if your reason is because of resale value it wont hurt it.

So with a supercharger at 8lb of boost (not turbo) how much power am I looking at? How much is it gonna take off the life of the engine, and how much will it end up costing?

Supercharger w/ 8lbs of boost will still make somewere in the 400rwhp range. As far as cost it depends on which kit you choose say anywhere from 4k-7k when its all said and done just to be safe.
