my CAI experience

I know there has been mucho discussion around CAI and their downfalls. So much so that I was really hesitant to get one. I was running a K&N conical that fit the stock airbox with the stock accordian rubber air tube. I recently put on a C&L plenum and BBK 75 mm TB, reset the computer, let it idle for 15 min or so without touching the gas and had some minor driveability issues. Idle would search a little before settling in, deceleration would do some "bucking" and though it felt quicker, it didn't sound as smooth as it did before I did the Tb and plenum. Anyway, I was browsing ebay and found a Roush cold air kit (I was going to eventually fab my own from 4" PVC and silicon hoses) for $60, brand new? How could I pass it up? If it didn't work, I'm sure I could sell it for more than I bought it for. So I hooked it up (it's tough getting the tube over a 75 MM Tb but I did it). It's a CAI that has a bend into the fenderwell with the filter stuck right on the other side of the bend. I reset the PCU, let it idle again for 15 min and took her for a spin. All issues gone. Smooth, quick acceleration with a very noticeable increase in power over the stock air intake box and tube. The tube before and immediately after the MAF is about 3.5 inches and from the MAF to the TB it is completely smooth transition from 3.5 to 3 inches at the TB. There are no bumps or dents in the tube and I am really pleased with the appearance and results (it's a heavy duty Black plastic with rubber impregnated at the ends where it clamps). I'll post some pics whe I get a chance. Just though I'd gove my experience. I think with the larger TB and Plenum, my stock intake box and tube were choking it.

BBK 75 maximum motorsports TB? You mean a BBK 75 millimeter (mm) TB?

maximum motorsports is a suspension parts maker. They resell a few items but they don't make throttle bodies.

You should do a quick dyno run to check your AF ratio... you're probably running a bit lean now. I wouldn't adjust anything wtih your predator tuner until you know for sure where it's lean/rich and how much though.

The drivability issues... hell looks like it's fixed. good work. post some pics. :punk:

You know what's funny is that for some reason I think this website changes "MM.." to Maximum Motorsports.....the other day I typed MM&FF and it changed it to Maximum Motorsports & Fast Fords when the comment was posted......hmmmmm

You're right... it did it to mine and I didn't even notice... hahahaha that's funny as hell.
