CAI Check

I actually just bought my car about 2 weeks ago (2002 GT) I've been looking alot on line to try and figure out which CAI would give me the most gain for the money. If anyone has any info I'd really appreciate it...thanks

Honestly, Id save your money and skip a cold-air. It reall is more of a show part that performance. Your best bet is to go with a K&N Replacement filter. Its about $45 and will give you a good 5-6 hp. With no other changes, I dropped .10 and gained 1 MPH with that filter. Put your money to gears, pullies or exhaust.

^^ thats good advice. do the cai later after most of your mods are done but know its more of an apperence mod then anything else.

go to www.tunableinduction.com this system is awsome. The full length one.

MineralGT 02-16-2005 02:17 AM

Thanks for the info...I think I'll prabably get an exhaust before anything else...I got some little cosmetic stuff like the 13 inch billet anntena, stainless bumper inserts and some other small stuff from MT. I'm still debating between Magnaflow and Flowmaster...I've actually never had a V8 before so I'm not too sure if my GT has a stock exhaust or not...it sounds pretty good for now.

Just glad I finally got something worth fixin up.

I bought a 1997 gt that had some cheap Cold air induction. If i had the factory box id put it back. Mines a no name. Looks like the cheapo $60 one's on ebay. I gotta break out tools just to take it apart to get @ the air filter which is probably junk.

If anyone has a factory ait Box for a 1997 GT, drop me a PM and a price.

I wouldnt mind it, since i guess it looked good new. But this cheap one is starting to Pit, and oxidize and some rust, Which im sure it does on the inside too, which cant be good. Guess that's why factory is plastic, No rust!!!

I guess that's why all the good one's Steeda and other's are made of Stainless. Save your money!!!And just get a filter like others have said.

NO, you don't want a bend in front of the maf sensor, it causes erratic O2 redings by the maf, also it can cause idle problems as well.

I use nothing bu a K&N, but i would use the JLT RAI it is proven to give a few hp accross the board.

MineralGT 04-23-2005 02:21 PM

Do you guys recommend the full k&n intake or just the replacement filter.

RedSilver88 04-25-2005 12:26 AM

K&N FIPK, 8-10 hp is common.

The JLT makes power by making your car VERY lean, which is not a great thing. This is, and has been dyno proven. Madi98GT on here just got his car tuned and had to make pretty significant A/F ratio changes during 3 partial dyno pulls because the JLT made his A/F so lean. Couldn't make a WOT pull till the 4th pull....thats a pretty whacked A/F ratio.

I have the Tunable Induction Full length CAI and everything seems okay, cant say I gained much if anything from it but when I bought my Accufab TB and Plenum I wanted to have something else than the stock rubber piece. BTW I have a bend before the MAF, had my car on the dyno and my A/F was right on. My recommendation is do NOT take the MAF screen off if you have a bend.

MineralGT 04-25-2005 11:22 AM

Yeah...I ordered the Tunable Induction system #5 for my GT...your saying don't take off the screen?

Correct. If the CAI you ordered has a bend before the MAF screen don’t take it off, if you do then you may run into the problems described above by others.

MineralGT 04-25-2005 01:15 PM

If you go to www.demolet.com then click on specifications at the top of the page it's system #5

Also if you look at it you could remove the piece that goes in the fender well, do you think that would be better than the full system...maybe i'll try both ways.

E'sStang03GT 04-27-2005 08:57 PM

Ive got a MAC straightshot with 85mm mam for sale, $150 shipped to your door, less than a week old.

MachGT 04-27-2005 09:32 PM

Save up for gears!!!!

MineralGT 05-09-2005 07:34 PM

RedLine- I got the tunable induction system and i love it...I was also planning on the C&L plenum and 75mm Accufab TB...300$ at rpm outlet. How do you like the setup?

RedLineCrazy 05-09-2005 11:37 PM

The setup is awsome. Makes the car louder to. I recently sold my mustang and put all the stock exhaust stuff back on and when i drove it i noticed the exhaust was not as loud and the car seemed slugish.

madmatt 05-10-2005 03:22 AM

Do not buy the plenum and tb until you HAVE GEARS!!! Take that 300 bucks, and buy everything you need to get the gears put in. Speedcal, gearset, and new bearings fluids, etc. can all be had for less than 300 bucks. Then find someone who installs them for about 150 to 200 bucks and you will thank me and be glad you didnt spend the money on the plenum tb combo. Its great sure, it improves throttle response sure, but will it put you back in the seat like the gears will? NO! Now start buying gear parts lol. Trust me on this, and get some 4.10s unless a blower is coming in like a month, cause youll want more from the 3.73s...

MineralGT 05-10-2005 01:53 PM

I was thinking of the 3.90's, I do a whole lot of freeway driving everyday.

Blue03gt 05-10-2005 05:46 PM

JLT is awesome! ... i def feel the power gains in the upper rpms... without sacrificing low end torque

JLT RAI gets my vote
