This Guy lying about Kenne Bell?

Ok I was with some friends last saturday and we came across a guy with a 2004 Mustang GT. It sounded about like mine does. X pipe with Flowmasters. His looked really nice. He had the windows tinted, lowered, 18's w.deep dish/315's, But he had stock tailpipes.

The guy was askin me about my car, the I asked what he had and he said " Yea its got a Kenne Bell on it..." I didnt believe it at first but I havent ever heard a Kenne Bell Blown GT before. I knew that Whipples made a soft whining noise at idle, but I wasnt sure about the kenne bell. I asked if he could pop the hood but, he just said he didnt want to draw a big crowd around his car. I looked at the tailpipes..... And they were stockers! They even still had the little cut at the end of the 2 1/2 inch pipes. I was thinking.... man theres no way hes got a kenne bell using stock tailpipes. I could prolly see a sprayed car using them but not a Kenne Bell. The thing was running just as quiet as my car. NO WHINE AT ALL.

He told me that it was running 10# boost. I didnt think that Kenne Belle offered a 10 pound pulley? Am I right? Im sure you could fabricate one from bare metal, but I doubt it very much with this guy. I hinted around trying to see if he wanted to run it. I was just asking him how he thought it would run against my car. He said it would stay with a bolt on 03 cobra but I dont even think he had a Kenne Bell. What U guys think?

Sounds fishy to me. Theres no reason to not pop your hood unless you are hiding something, or a lack there of, in my opinion. Also, KB does 9 lb pulleys, so I dunno about the 10 lb thing either.

"he didnt want to draw a big crowd around his car" The sound of a KB will do that anyway.

Wish i could find the ole BS meter. Anyone got it?

Talking about this one?

the guy is full of crap but no reason you couldnt use stock tail pipes with a KB. You get plenty flow from them, mufflers would play a much bigger part of his exhaust breathing.

MattJ 01-30-2006 06:42 AM

There are 10 pound pullys for the Kenne Bell. And what does stock tailpipes have to do with anything?? My buddy has a aftercooled vortech sq with stock tailpipes. His story sounds legit to me...
They are also relatively quiet untill you get on em. Most of the time you wont hear the whine on easy diving conditions or on idle.

sacstoy02gt 01-30-2006 08:14 AM

I have a KB with a 10lb pulley on my '02 GT.

Not very loud at all at idle. If you don't know what to listen for, you probably wouldn't hear it. Punch it, you can easily hear it though.

Not saying his story is legit, but it could be.

macs03GT 01-30-2006 10:21 AM

it doesn't sound legit just becuase he wouldn't open the hood. Most people who drop 4000 into a blower will want to show it off. Hell i would. Even if you didn't put 4000 into it...most people want to show their superchargers off.

$4000? Try $6000 with big tube/switch chip/90MM MAF and shipping on the 9psi kit!

Yeah, I agree, I don't see why he doesn't want to show it off. But oh well, who cares.

madmatt 01-30-2006 02:22 PM

Yea, not a big deal really, if he feels like he needs to lie to get attention, thats his thing, race him, at the track, lol, and find out.

Stevoneo 01-31-2006 12:07 PM

i didnt show my car off when i had the s/c on, and i had the stock tail pipes on mine.

But when challenged to a race, I did not back down.

next time you see him, tell him he does not have to open the hood up, but tell him to crack it open a little for you to peek in

But listen for when he drives a way, you will hear it

Yea I listened for the whine when he drove off. He gave it a little bit of gas when he pulled off and I heard NO WHINE. I dont think he has a kenne bell. He also told me that the blower was installed along with the other mods..... about the week after he bought the car. He said it has 36,000 miles. I really dont think he did but you always wondor. When I was talking to him about how it runs against other cars.... he said he didnt like to race it on the street. However, the guy is in a parking lot with many street racers on a saturday night. Seems like if he was all against street racing then he probably wouldnt be out there.

Also, I know that you are able to use stock tailpipes on his car. I am just saying that when you have at least 7,000 dollars worth of performance and visual mods...... Your gonna have a 350 dollar cat back on it.

i never pop my hood. then people lower their bets. then again my BOV gives it away if my car is running

Shambles 01-31-2006 01:53 PM

I coulda sworn the KB's needed a higher cowl to clear on a GT, I could be wrong though.

the 2.2L does. The 1.7 fits under it easily.

MattJ 01-31-2006 04:15 PM

I raced sac a few times at our local drag strip. he handed me my ass with that KB.

:devil2:

I'm well over 6 grand into my install, $6300 not including gages and pods and I still have half the install and tuning fees to pay. The blower and shipping itself is over 5 grand.
