Average dyno cost???

Just wondered what the "usual" price for a baseline dyno run is. I know prices may vary from area to area and type of dyno, but I was just curious as to what everyone is paying.

Thanks! :beerchug:

It averages around 100 bucks an hour for some of the better guys.

my tuner charged me $90 dyno rental fee, and then $150 for the tuning portion. It was all flat fees

Around here, we have a shop that does like 3 a/f ratio pulls for like 100 bucks or so.

For a tune which includes the hand held tuner run's $450 here.

Blk02stang 01-15-2006 11:59 AM

my buddies shop does $65 for 3 base pulls and $85 for 3 with a/f readings. $40 an hour for tuning.

60 bux for 3 pulls to see what numbers you put out.

100 dollars an hour for custom tuning + the cost of whatever handheld tuner you buy

45$ for 3 pulls to see how much hp and torque...then i dont know about the tuning part

I might have to get this done so what do they do? When i ask this im wondering where they plug into to tune the car.

whitethunder46 01-15-2006 08:36 PM

u gotta shop in mind?

I'm from dayton and know of a good shop, i dont know how far Findlay is from Dayton though

There is a local automotive school that does tuning, but im not sure if i can get in there. I have a car trailor so i can drive a few miles i guess.

Thanks for the replys!!! Still trying to find out how much they run here in my area, most guys around here say about 100 for three pulls. Hopefully I'll make it down there by next month. :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug:

Are there any special preparations I need to do to the car before going to a dyno? I know there's stuff to do before you go run at a drag strip, but is just as simple as driving in off the street and getting a dyno run done?

Bring your money and your tuner. Make sure your fluid levels are where they should be to provide optimum cooling as well.

Cool...I plan on ordering a tuner this week  and I guess I'll hold off on putting the gears in until after I get it dynoed...Thanks for the info :beerchug:

whitethunder46 01-16-2006 07:17 PM

why not do gears with the dyno, then they can adjust ur spedometer and get ur shift points perfect for u and the new gears

I've got a couple of cross-country trips to take here in the next couple of months and was under the impression that 4.10's weren't exactly the best for extended highway driving. I had planned on waiting till they were over to throw the gears in. Was I misinformed about the gears? :helpsmili

madmatt 01-16-2006 08:30 PM

Dude, ignore EVERYONE that says that. I know I have 3.73's, but after my tune, I got 25 mpg. I know others that are SUPERCHARGED with 4.10's and get 23-25 mpg. Dont hold off just because of what you've heard.

MattJ 01-16-2006 08:58 PM

Do your gears as soon as possible.

Well, if BOTH Matts say do it, I'll do it!!! I was gonna order the SCT XCal2 programmer (to reset the gear ratio) tonight, but I'm thinking I should probably wait til the A.M. and actually order it over the phone from MT. I was going to get a tune for the handful of mods I have on regular gas, one for premium and one for the valet mode. Does that sound about right???
