cornering sucks

Just the other day I came around a corner normally at probably 25mph in 2nd and I drifted around thee corner. It was scary and cool but I never like to have the feeling where I'm not in control of my car. What mod would probably fixx this? I think stangs don't have the best steering/cornering marks but besides new tires what part of the car should I build up for better steering and cornering response.

how do you spin out in a saleen going around a 10 mph corner going 25 mph. maybe you were laying on the gas too much im not saying you had it floored just had a little on it to make the rear end dance a little bit. because if you werent on the gas and the corner was too much then your front end would of just kept sliding straight instead of around the corner. get a new rear sway bar a softer one that would probably help out some a stiffer rear sway bar would be better for higher speeds. so get the adjustable rear sway bar.

Research it. use your resources, the internet is a endless source of info :icon_thum

Best thing to do is get a 99 up Cobra.

If that isn't an option, then try full length subframe connectors. When I had my GT, I noticed a big improvement. I believe I had the MM subs.

my car handles great, maybe you need to lift off the gas around corners if it scares you. And your car is allready setup to handle awsome its a freaking saleen.

freaking saleen :laughing4 lol

a couple of things any rear wheel drive car with power is going to drift alittle if you give it to much gas thru the curve. so you might have to slow down a little or do what i did i learned how to control the car when it fish tails like that. besides you dont know what is on the road at any given point: loose dirt, oil, wet road, etc....

spike_africa 01-25-2005 05:57 PM

What i have driven a 2001 saleen ( a freind of my fathers toy). handles 2x better than mine. i cant see how his handles badly unless he sucks at driving or is scared. Not saying you are but yeah i dont know.

My tires could use a good change. My friend told me that a good way to check your thread is to get a penny turn it upside down and put it in the groove and if any part of Lincol's head is covered then your fine. But right now Lincoln's head isnt covered...

I actually took the turn at normal speeds BUT this time instead of a wider turn I tried doing a tighter turn that hugged around the curb. My brother does it all the time in his Audi A4, which takes cornering really nice. So I steered the wheel a little more than usual and I guess I lost traction in the front since I don't think tires are supposed to drive sideways.

Can someone tell me if that seems like a logical reason?

w01stang 01-25-2005 06:32 PM

then fish tailing is the normal result of that turn. i do it on purpose cause i like driving sideways. :icon_thum

my advise to you is change the tires and learn your car. learn what it can and cant not do.. now the audi is a totally different car then your saleen they are build different for different reasons. one being mustangs wheather we like it or not are build to go straight. (1/4Mile etc...)

Get some tires first. If that doesn't help, buy some adjustable shocks and struts (I reccomend Strange Engineering 10 ways), and some thicker sway bars.

Apparently in your situation, the best thing you could do to cure this is buy a Lincoln Town Car...lol....if you're that bad of a driver.
:sad3:

i was gonna say, sounds like u just need more traction.. my lowered vert handles pretty decent around corners.. and i've done hwtau have a couple of times with out spinnng out... or losing it... get better tires...

Islander03GT 01-28-2005 02:37 PM

Yeah, was it wet out when you did this? I know you're in So Cal and it's been soaked lately... wet tires plus TC off equals spinnage.

Ghostalker 01-28-2005 05:04 PM

Living in CT with a car that doesnt have TC (CT+no TC) = bad, or potentially, i can give it barely any gas anywhere, just have to cruise all winter it seems, this one is horrible, it hasent been above 32* in weeks...

Thats hard to believe @ 25mph, My 1997 gt really amazes me compared to My older mustangs. Cept for too much gas in the corners and slipping the rear out in a corner, Ive never drifted the front.

I put 4.10s im my Car 3 days ago with some hard rear stock tires, They arent going to last long. Feels like im riding on ice through 1st,2nd and 3rd.

Whats everyones favorite Decent priced. Brand Here. Ive Ordered a pair of nitto DRs, And a 2nd set of rear rims. Planning on swapping just on long trips.

Ive seen some nice prices Forein named tires for crazy low under 100 prices.

97MGT 02-04-2005 10:41 PM

Was it raining by chance? lmao
How bald are your tires? you probably entered the turn and made a short distance 90* turn and not gradual only applying throttle mid turn.

p3s7_01 02-05-2005 06:44 PM

it wasnt raining but the ground was wet b4 I entered the turn. The turn is positioned wierd and goes from downhill before you enter the turn to flat ground when you come out.

tedinde 02-05-2005 08:12 PM

Downhill then flat. I have a corner like u speak of hear coming around a on ramp to a interstate, I first found it driving a 89 formula 350 ws6 suspension Option., handled way better than my mustang sad to say, I ended up doing a 360 upon entering the interstate. But kept going forward like i meant to do it!!! Road was damp.

Ive seen a lot of accidents there. Just a fluke, Your cornerings fine. way better than mine.

04DarkShadowGT 02-06-2005 06:03 AM

Tires man, the stock Saleen suspension is pretty good out of the box. Unless you are doing some racing then it should easily be fine for a driver.
