BAH! got my first ticket, any advice?

damn, well its not like i didnt deserve it. so im out on a desolate road, 35 mph zone, my friend and i are cruisin next to eachother. he's givin it a little gas so i take the bait and gun it a bit. as im slowin down, i get yanked.

63 in a 35. 4 points and at least a $200 fine. now, i have never even been PULLED OVER before. though ive had no prior offences, i can understand that a cop couldnt let a 19 year old in a mustang get away with a 28mph over offence.

my court date is the 19th, but ill be back in school so i want to get this cleared up asap. i was thinkin about goin in either tomorrow or monday (ill call and see when the prosecutor is goin to be in) and talkin it over with them. even if they stil want me to go to court, i cant take time out of school.

how do i go about this? if i gotta go to court do i plead not guilty and hope for a lesser sentence? should i mention that "i havent even been pulled over before, let alone had any prior speeding tickets", and that "im a broke college student that cant afford some huge ticket, especially on a first offence"?

i dont care that much about the fine, if i gotta pay it then ok. im just hopin i can at least get it knocked down to like 2 points, then take a defensive driving course and take those 2 off. THEN ill worry about the fine.

:bash:

Honestly I cant believe you dont have a wreckless driving charge, or that you werent wearing shiny bracelets on both wrists. I dunno what to tell you man, you can talk to them all you want, but its one thing if it is your first ticket and its like 10 mph over, but almost 30? Best of luck to you.

See if there is a defensive driving course you can take. If you can normally they will drop your points, and make you pay the fine, plus the fee for the defensive driving course. Its better than paying out the ass later on in insurance fees.

well my friend got a 4 point ticket. he got it down to 2 by talkin to the prosecutor and then got rid of the other 2 through defensive driving. thats what im hoping for.

otherwise, im curious if they will nix the points in favor of a larger fine since it was a first offence. i know they do that elsewhere, but im not sre about her in NJ.

i'd just pay the fine and be done with it. i was able to get out of a speeding ticket once because i'd change the gear in my car but not the speedo gear. i knew i was speeding but i went to a dealership and had them calibrate the speedo, then i took the info to court. the judge dropped the speeding ticket and fined me for improper equipment, no points and about $5 more on the fine if i remember correctly, that was a long time ago. early 90's

heres what you do

go to court, there will be many people there

you go into the court room, and you get called one by one up in front of the judge

when you get called up, youll be there for about 30 seconds

you plead guilty, and they give you a reduced chrage, like defective head lights and tail lights, take the points down to 1 or 2, and u have to pay the fine

go to a different room, pay the fine, get on with your life

then leave

You are lucky you hit the brake, because 7mph more and your liscence would be gone. "this is my first offence" isnt going to mean didly squat in court. Ask for a driving class. You have to realize your offence isnt a measly 10 over, you are going almost double the speed limit. Id be suprised if you got away somehow without some sort of a speeding infraction.
