gas milage question

lately I have been getting about 10-12 miles to the gallon in my GT 5 speed and that is shifting between 2,500-3,000 RPM's, the check engine light is not coming on so I do not think that it is the o2 sensor, does anybody have any ideas what might be causing my bad gas milage? what is evrybody else getting for gas milage?

stang00 01-05-2006 08:09 PM

Have you done a fuel tune up? Id try running a top engine cleaner through the car, and a fuel treatment system. Seafoam is a product that will do both and I would pick up two bottles. One for your fuel, and the other through your PCV valve while the vehicle is running. Id see how that works and possibly try changing your fuel filter.

I get 19 doing fast highway driving

I get 14-15 in the city if I drive conservative (for the most part)

Well the problem with that is your full throttle goes nowhere. Thats why you get the good mileage driving like a retard.

TClark22 01-05-2006 08:27 PM

funny thing is i cant shift at any point...im an auto but i still get some bad gas milage driving from school and back...normal is like 15 but in the summer when i was working where i drove on the highway i got around 20 to 21

where are you all located???? my 01 v6 5spd i was getting 23 mpg around the town and at least 28 on the highway, in my 02 gt im getting about 19-20 around town and 24-25 on highway, im on the west coast...

dsdaddy 01-05-2006 10:47 PM

I just made a trip from Texas to Florida and managed about 26-27 mpg...could have been better, but traffic was moving pretty good :devil2:

Nofire 01-06-2006 01:28 AM

With the mods I did before the gears, I could pull down 29+ mpg on the highway if I waxed my car (it DOES make a difference at highway speeds). In town I would get like 19-20. Now that I have 4.10's, it goes something like 21 mpg on the highway and 16 in the city. But the gears were worth it. :punk:

ha ha...
I've got me a 5.0HO...
and
with 93 octane... i get bout 20/21 MPG

madmatt 01-06-2006 08:13 AM

I got about 18 mpg last tank, but I drive a mix of highway and city and beat on it a little (in other words, all the time) :D Drive it like was meant to be I guess. BUT 12 is rediculous.

pimpmustangGT 01-06-2006 08:20 PM

wax will not effect gas mileage... some people just make up the dumbest sh!t...(not a differnce that your gauge could discriminate anyway- smartass)

csledd 01-06-2006 08:29 PM

it's all in how you drive your car, with 4.10 gears I can use 1/4 to 1/2 a tank of gas in just a few hours no problem and not even going very far lol

See my friend, this is where your wrong. I have always owned Autos because 4 days out of the week i have to sit in about 2 hour bumper to bumper traffic that NEVER MOVES. So I buy autos. You CAN control your shifts, its all about how you step on the pedal. If you step on it lightly and pretty much just be like "tapping it", it you can control it to go about 2,500 rpms, Now if you just STEP on the pedal everywhere, your car is always going to go to 5,000+ RPMS because you're giving it full throttle.

If that dosn't help what you want to do is just be looking at your RPM meter, When your pressing the accelerator notice how much your RPM meter is rising, when you see it get to about 2,500-3,000 losen out the pedal so it dosn't go higher.

First gear i never let it pass 3,000 RPMs, and then the rest of them never pass 2,500 RPMs. Saves me a lot of gas then letting it go to 6,000 RPM

silverstang2001 02-23-2006 10:22 AM

I too am only getting about 10-12 mpg right now. Plus, when I put in the clutch/neutral the rpms do not drop down to idle. I think the accelerator might be sticking... does anyone have any ideas?

Grimmz 02-23-2006 10:34 AM

fuel economy isn't really worth pursuing...ur never guna have a high power fuel efficient car...lol sry but thats kinda like driving a truck and bitchin cuz you gotta spend 50 dollars a gallon thats the whole point...everyone know's that... probably another good reason for me not to get the crate motor till after college when i'm bankin consistantly...

spike_africa 02-23-2006 10:53 AM

i got 16.9mpg my last tank i drive rather hard with WOT sprints every once in awhile.

madmatt 02-23-2006 11:07 AM

cough back from the dead cough cough :D

I doubt your throttle is sticking, if it were, you would know it, and you'd prolly have had a wreck by now. On that note, I got 20 mpg this past tank :D

whitethunder46 02-23-2006 11:15 AM

For the past month I've been paying very close attention to my gas mileage.

I've avg. 17.8MPG with 80% city driving and with a 01GT. Not conservative, not aggressive, just normal fun driving.

silverstang2001 02-23-2006 11:16 AM

What would cause the RPMs to stay up when the engine is put in neutral?:helpsmili

4.6 Love 02-23-2006 11:28 AM

Surprisingly enough, i read my trip meter and i'm at 296 miles. I started out with a full tank, now my low fuel light is on, but damn 296 miles, thats the most i've ever gotten outta my car...

whitethunder46 02-23-2006 01:06 PM

15.7 Strange tho because the most I can ever fill up is about 13.6 gallons. I've heard that the rest of the gas is on "reserve" I dont know what this means exactly tho.

silverstang2001 02-23-2006 09:50 PM

i was thinking i had a 12-gallon tank, but the other day my low-fuel light was on (for about 10 miles) and it took about 13.5 gallons to fill her up
