for those who dont own your car

for those who dont own their stang

Do your parents let you do anything you want to it?

reason for asking is that my parents wont let me do my effin springs...i mean its not like it hurts the car to have it lowered 1" to 1.5"...

and i have an appointment with my shop to install them for me tomorrow and they just told me no...well my dad did !!!!! AHHH

does anyone else have the same problem?

4.6 Love 01-01-2006 03:13 PM

I don't own my car, i still have about 22 more payments. The car is under my dads name, however i make all the payments and such, so i do what it want with it... :)

95STANG 01-01-2006 03:15 PM

My mom doesnt care, but my dad doesnt want me to have anything loud...im mean come on its a V6 its not gunna be that loud

FritoBandito 01-01-2006 03:22 PM

the bank owns my car for the next 40 years but my steep driveway dictates the mods I can perform. If I had a normal driveway, I'd order springs tomorrow....

40 years? wtf? are your payments like $15 a month? lol
gotta be a typo

As a parent who owns a Mustang, to me it depends on the situation. I dont yet have any teen drivers, but if I did, I would indeed have a few concerns about modding a car. Yet, I have to admit, the fun of doing it would tend to over-ride some of those fears.

1 - As aparent I would be concerned about the car being too fast and dangerous. Burying a child is not fun.

2 - If I or the child had a lot of money invested in the car and it was under warranty I would prolly say "nope".

3 - If as a parent, I did not understand the whole modding thing, then I would say "no".

4 - If my kid was suffering in school with grades and the like and would be lest likely to want to see him/her dumping money and time into a car. Then again, school just isn't for everyone.

If I did have a teen son, I would be more likley to buy a project car that we could work on together. That would be fun. Something like taking a '65 stang or something like that.

Also, eveyone needs a hoby. I would rather you be "into your car" then into some other things....so that is another way to look at it.

Ultimately, you need to either change their mind or do what they say short of moving out of the house.

i have 19 more payments. I swear. Once I pay off this damn car imma throw myself a freakkin party. $433 a month is alot.
The only thing that keeps me back sometimes from getting mods when I want them is my wallet. but when the money is free and available....MustangTuning is my bestest friend in the world. :pepper:

Stan 01-01-2006 04:06 PM

yea my dad did the downpayment for my stang and i pay the payment and insurance for it every month and i can do whatever i want to the car got about 5 grand saved up waiting for the summer all going to the stang :)

Mug11 01-01-2006 04:13 PM

Car is payed for... but under my mother's name.

Milos 01-01-2006 04:36 PM

I halved both the insurance and the payments for my car (my parents paid the downpayment..) and the whole reason I got the mustang was because I was pimpin' the family SUV...

My mother is real picky when it comes to working on the car, but my dad is more flexible... he wants me to put rims on it and wants me to continue to make it look good (I mean its a V6, theres no real point juicing it up, but I can make it look friggin sweet) -- its a father/son thing.

TClark22 01-01-2006 04:47 PM

yea the problem is that i dont own any part of the car...

i am gonna talk to them tonight at dinner though...wish me luck

but my stang sometimes keeps me from doing the things that my friends do...drink and smoke and ****...i dont want my stang wrecked or smelling bad

i am protective of it

madmatt 01-01-2006 04:51 PM

My folks wont let me have nitrous, or a supercharger, but other than that, its pretty open. Im sure they would, but its kinda like, why, we dont let you race the car at the track so why buy it, kinda thing.

LOL no I wont let myself have those. Stupid money right there... :bash:

whitethunder46 01-01-2006 05:29 PM

Mine's under my mom and dad's name and they also pay for the car payments. My parents used to pay for my insurance on my old car, but when it died I convinced them that if I got a sportier car and the insurance would go up, I would be the difference between the old and new car, which is 45 bux a month. My mom and dad are pretty cluseless what anything on a car is, so I was able to squeeze out full exhaust last year. I also did a CAI and SCT xcal2 with out them knowing. I pay for any mods done and everything else done to the car, meaning maintenace and gas. My parents never drive my car so basically i can do whatever and they'd never know. Next year I'll do gears, and tranny parts, but they'll never know i have them. And the warranty is already over so I'm good there.

MattJ 01-01-2006 05:37 PM

My bank owns mine and ive got 39 payments left.

And I do whatever I please to my car. I paid every cent for insurance and car payment so who is anyone to tell me what I can or cant do?

PureStang 01-01-2006 05:52 PM

i am co-owner of my car.....my mom and i made an agreement....if she could drive the car w/ me not having a fit about it...then i could modify my car but id still have to ask her first/tell her about it if it is to do any thing that will "harm the car"

and my mom trusts me w/ my car....i have never abused anything i have owned..ie paintball guns...ive owned 2 and i ahve never shot anything other than people in game of skirmish or speed ball...nvr shot at cars, innocent animals and the sort....

csledd 01-01-2006 06:26 PM

my car still belongs to the bank and will for awhile.. but my name is on the title, i make all the payments, i pay the insurance, i pay for the parts.. the only catch is my dad helps me install everything, so I have to have him on my side in order to get his help lol. My dad is strange.. he wants the engine to stay stock.. when I tell him I want cams he wants me to buy heads and save the stock heads lol.. im like wtf. Anyways, he's not as familiar with the 4.6 stangs.. he use to be a camaro guy so if I explain things to him he understands. For example the cams, he said they would be too crazy and would make my car completely undriveable.. I explained to him that the cams I want aren't nearly that bad, and then I get him convinced.

I also just bought a 1984 5.0 hatch for $200.. and it's me and his project car, so we get to do whatever we want and dont care if it blows up lol

BrentK 01-01-2006 06:35 PM

Just bought mine a year ago so I got some payments left but my dad wants me to get a 04 cobra instead of building up my GT like my origional plansbut I aint complaining...He is even paying for some of it :punk:

The best part is that his boss is loaning us a truck to haul it with and giving us a 5.0 engine, and a c4 tranny.. he's kinda like our unofficial sponsor lol

rebelyell 01-01-2006 08:03 PM

my car will be paid for in full in 2009. My wife's Chrysler concorde will be paid in full in 2007. she already wants something new, she's bored with it already. Me I'm waiting till Mine is almost paid for then I'm gonna mod the heck out of it. I'm working on the looks still. And I keep her clean and drive her sensibly. I'll have my stang at least 350 HP and looking good in 2008 or 09. I can wait, my stang will be ready for some new lower springs, and 18" rims and anything else 440 bucks a month will get me. :punk:

Badfish 01-01-2006 08:34 PM

wow chrisstie a FREE c4?? thats awesome

I hear ya man...$395/month would make some pretty nice mods in a year's time

Islander03GT 01-02-2006 11:59 AM

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

If you're under the age of 18, and your parents say no, and they're paying, you have two options.

1. Respect their wishes and wait.
2. Give the car back, move out, drop out of school, and pay for all your own ****. See how much mod money you have when there are bills to pay.

When I was 16, I wanted either a V8 Mustang or Camaro, or a 4x4 Truck to lift. They didnt want me to have either becuase of insurance costs and concerns about me being stupid with both. I got a Chevy S10 and lowered it as a compromise. I could do little bolt ons, but any big projects required approval.. and that was generally a no.

Now that I've proven I'm not out to kill myself or others on the road, and I pay for my own car, I get to do whatever I want with it.
