Help.............

Right now I have the stock gears.....and Say I ran a 14.4 in the quarter....How much better will my time be if I had 3.73's???

Anyone have an answer???? :coffee:

Possibly 14.1's. 3.73's will not give you the umph that 4.10's will.

Depends on your driving. At first you may actually go slower. Once you have adjusted your technique you will probably shave 2-4 tenths off your quarter.

Is it true that automatics r slower than stick?

well, i know that if you dont know about the mechanics involved you would think that an automatic were faster because it eliminates human error (like in a video game) sadly, in the real world an automatic is driven through a complecated series of fluids and such and it is noticabley slower. I have a friend with an Auto 00' GT and he just drove with me in my car for the first time today and he was very much impressed (i have a V6, and it acts so much differently than his auto..) A good amount of this also has to do with the gearing of the manuals... someone else will get alot more technical than me with that, lol. Driving manual can be a pain in heavy traffic, lol, but i enjoy it alot. Autos have alot more of a 'coasting' ability, if you let off the gas in an auto you continue to roll, let off the gas in a manual you slow down with the engine... so it can get complicated but thats why you learn it!
So in short, yes autos are slower than stick, unless the guy driving stick has no idea what he is doing or misses a shift or etc. etc.

Lol, alright thanx, but lets say, i fix my stang up, and its really really fast...will i be ok then? and stand a chance with racing?

you can learn to drive on an auto alot easier, it makes alot more sense not learning to do 2 things at once. I learned on one of my parents cars (1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Automatic V6, 2.3 liters AHHAHAA) and did fine with that, after gettting completely comfortable driving by myself in an auto we started to learn on manual, i can say i picked up on it pretty quick, and then drove by myself manual, perfect, took it out a few times until i became perfectly used to gettign the car off the line. I highly (always) recomend a manual over an auto , especially if u have another car you can learn on. A mustang is an awesome first car, from expirience, and the girls love it 0_^ not like i didnt have girl hanging around me driving the Gheybring, but they LOVED the mustang, wow... :tongue1:

(Edit:) I wouldnt worry too much about modding your first car up the but, as males we have a tendency to actually get our first cars.. well lets say bruised, so your first car might want to be more of a used beater (like mine) 1995 Mustang Coupe, V6, manual, 111,000 miles on it when we bought it and it was in DIRE NEED of a tranny repair, 3200 bucks... yay! it was in PERFECT condition other than the tranny, =D

Lol, well I don't have any manual cars to practice on so...? Is an auto ok for like the next 2-3 yrs of my life? or no? I mean, racing isnt gonna be my top prority, only when some moron thinks he can take me (after i get more stuff)...i <3 audio...im getting a nice system for sure...lol

yeah, although most like the stock mach 460 audio system, i dont have that in my car naymore, the rear deck speakers have been replaced with the alpine's and the headunit with a clarion unit... so it sounds dayum good =D no earth shattering base that annoys people from miles, but is perfect from inside the car ...
I have alot more fun with my car, being manual... so if u want every little drive to be a little adventure, well, manual is for you =D

I don't seem to much trouble killing 5 speeds with my auto :icon_bigg

I plan on getting audiobahns ( 2 12's ) for subs, idk wutever yet, its gonna rattle the road, but im not gonna make it like that ALL the time, only when i wanna show off...lol...my 2nd car might be stick...we'll see

let me just say one thing......

if you have an automatic, get a TORQUE CONVERTER


that will end all of the business with worrying about standards unless you plan to race the twisties. But most of us simply drag and you'll give the standard guys fits.

when i wanna show off, the clutch goes to the floor and so does the gas, you may be asking yourself 'why would ghostey rev his little V6?' because weve done comparisons, while my car lacks the sound of 2 extra cylinders it sounds very good, and much like a GT, so when i got to the mall, go into the parking garage, and rev it to the red, car alarms go off =D

yeah, that can resolve some problems at the trac, but i still get more of a thrill out of driving my V6 manual than my friends auto gt =D

Lets say I got 1.2K to use on my car, everything is stock, what would be the best stuff to buy RIGHT off the bat?

i would try to accomplish the normal mods, like Rims and exhaust , and the mach 1 chin spoiler... =D

Which exhaust tho?! I already kno wut rims i want, plus i was thinkin of getting the chin already. lol. and i like the "Mustang" Lettering for like 60 bucks lol

i have an auto and all i done to my tranny was flush it and put in mobil 1 and b&m trick shift fluid back in it. and i picked up a tenth. and 3.73's only gave me a tenth at the track. i went from a 13.6 to 13.5. my mph went up from 100 to 103. my next plan of attack is to get some drag radials and a tuner i should pick up about 2-4 tenths. sticks with the same mods as me wish they could keep up. my roomates bullit cant even hang with me and he has the same amount of mods as me minus the gears. but remember i only picked up a tenth from the 3.73's. he is still hangin around a 13.7 with drag radials

oh yeah just to let you know my 18's slowed me down by 4 tenths. and when i raced my car i put on my 17's that still have those sucky stock eagle gatorbacks.

well i personally like my MAC dualies... cost me 299.99 on ebay shipping included, and the hangars were included too. My father and I put the exhaust on in our own garage just using a couple jacks and support things, just high enough to work under, so install was free =D
People will always say that 'it wont sound like a GT' ad it wont, but in my town all the other mustangs are stock, we have a couple stock 94-98 GT's that are SO QUIET, its annoying, lol, so my car is 'louder' than those, but i dont have as much of that 'rumble' that the V8 obviousely gains, i will get that when i upgrade to a new gt / 96-98 cobra =D

go with steeper gears 3.73 are alright but 3.90s or 4.10s would be better.
