does anyone know how much headers cost for the install at a shop?? Because i know BBK are a BITCH to install...

4.6 Love 12-20-2005 02:58 PM

More than the price of the headers thats for sure...well it depends..
$500+ bucks is the average price..

Lances03SVT 12-20-2005 02:59 PM

Yep it's not going to be cheap for sure.

hollister 12-20-2005 02:59 PM

hollister 12-20-2005 03:03 PM

haha thats what i hear, but in the end itll be worth it :D

Islander03GT 12-20-2005 03:33 PM

The best advice i can give you is to fab up an engine brace and drop the k-member.

it may seem like alot more work, but it makes the job a hell of alot easier.

go to www.stangfreak.com and check out the tech article on how to do it.

Icefreezen 12-20-2005 03:39 PM

Gloves........thats all I can say knuckle savers

good luck. it took me and my mechanic to do it in 7 hours with a lift. pay to have someone do it, it will be worth it. trust me, you dont want to do it. i did bbk shorties on mine.

hollister 12-20-2005 07:23 PM

were the bbk shorties worth it becuase im starting to lean towards those now??

true, with the ford brace tool we can do it it in a couple hours....

MattJ 12-20-2005 07:26 PM

i had the engine brace, car hoist and pnumatic liftt to drop kemember, it still took 7 hours from pulling the car in, to pulling the car back in from a test drive.

if you are doing headers, dont do BBK shorties. they line up like ASS.

hollister 12-20-2005 07:32 PM

yeah thats been the genral review ive heard, how about the fittiment of the bbk full length???

madmatt 12-20-2005 07:44 PM

From what I get, the bbk lt's fit well. Change your clutch when you do the lt's though, with something that you KNOW will hold up to any power you throw at it.

SpinMedia 12-20-2005 09:05 PM

dude get gloves, and like a 12 pack of beer just for yourself

yeah bc when installing something as complicated as headers, being intoxicated s just what the doctor ordered

Islander03GT 12-21-2005 01:23 AM

I'm telling you, get the JBAs. Anything less on a shorty is a waste IMO. I did an install on a BBK Tuned Length in that article, and they did fit, however the design on some of the studs and bolts was odd and difficult to use.

We didnt have a hoist. My friend welded up a steel beam with an eye bolt. we hung the ford bracket from the eye bolt, and turned it to move the engine up and down.

He started one night removing suspension, the next day we did all the installs for the headers, mid pipe, and k-member, and the third day he put the control arms and stuff back on... first header install and k-member drop for the 3 of us there.

oh yeah, get a lightweight k-member since you'll have it out anyway.

madmatt 12-21-2005 04:48 AM

Personally, I think anything less than a longtube on these cars is a waste. But thats just me.

hollister 12-21-2005 05:52 AM

well thats what im probably gonna go with anyways...is there a major difference between a short h pipe and normal length, like performance wise?

madmatt 12-21-2005 06:25 AM

No, but you have to use a short h pipe with the headers

I'm still running my stock clutch, with 82.5K miles...i'm sure it will hast another 30k more. ..(knock on wood)

madmatt 12-21-2005 11:32 AM

Yes, but why the hell would you want to put longtubes on and then a week later have something happen to the clutch and have to TAKE THE PASS. SIDE BACK OFF. Maybe its just me, but id do it all at once.

Yes however i have hooker headers which are slip fit, so don't need to take anything off.. ;)

hollister 12-21-2005 12:17 PM

yeah i know thats why i asked, will all short h pipes fit bbk fulls or only the bbk short h

pimpmustangGT 12-21-2005 12:29 PM

Do long tubes if want to actually pick up the power for you money - shorties dont cut it (they dont pulse the exhaust gases correctly) and equal length is even worse... if all the exit tubes are equal then the exhaust puleses arn't phased = less gain - Ive got mac LT's they are awsome fitment is good - you might need to fenagle the egr tube a bit but other than that not to bad - I think we took the starter off to - again not a big deal ... its really just time consumin more than it is complicated... the benifits are awsome - i believe the LT's added more power than my 4.10 - plus that power will multiply once you s/c your car... my macs were 350-400 shipped - dealers charge 600 for the part and 600 for the install ... you can do it yourself if you have small hands and a lift - you dont have to drop the suspension with the mac - although you might consider it ... i got my boy (ford tech) to help me do it for 200 but you should be able to find people to do it for 300... shop around.. also you probaly dont need to spend the xtra 100 or so for the ceramic coated... its not really going to make a differnce - especially if you a CAI then it makes no difference. ;)

pimpmustangGT 12-21-2005 12:31 PM

haha the LT's help but your not going to need a new clutch because of them - lol

with longtubes yo will need a shorty x or h pipe.

pimpmustangGT 12-21-2005 12:40 PM

Ok - yes the performance difference is substantial... the LT's provide more low and mid range torque while also provide more top end hp - THEY MUST BE TUNED LENTGH - (meaning LT's) or they are crap - the LTs will pick up 10-15 more hp than the shorties will - meaning shorties worth around 20 and LT's worth around 40 - the test car for mac picked up about 40 - thats a badass gain for 350 bucks well.. plus install so 550 bucks but again once you s/c this gain will increase even a little bit more - When shopping for headers look at the exit tubes - if they are equal length then they are crap - one or two tubes should have funky bends in them - indicated that they are tuned.... Not mention the best part of LT's is the exhaust note OMFG sounds like a nascar - taake her for a spin with open headers when u get it on there - HAHA its scary loud - but for God sakes when you do LT's don't put some g ay high flow cats on there or any crap like that .. just leave em off and get MIL eliminators for 10.00 on ebay - No cats is worth another 15-20 hp and you wont get caught ;) ill put up some pics of mine to show you how I got around it...

pimpmustangGT 12-21-2005 12:43 PM

man no need to buy a new pipe - just have your guy cut the factory H down (free mod) and performance is about the same - but you wont loose as much torque as with an x

hollister 12-21-2005 12:57 PM

im saying will only the bbk pipe fit the bbk headers or can i get any brand h pipe?
