Caliper paint

i am going to paint my caplipers and i want to wat to buy.....how many cans and clearcoat?....i think i know the process of painting...

Go to Checker Auto or Autozone, check out thier paint section, there are KITS from Duplicolor specifically made for painting calipers. everything you need.
I advise buying another brush though, the one that comes with the kit totally sucks and falls apart..

y would u use the brush?

I'm going to try something different than the Dupli-color kit. I did like 2 or 3 clear coats and that didnt protect it much...but I was being dumb and used wheel cleaner and made it start to peel....make sure you clean them very very well

so what exactly went wrong with duplicolor in detail? because i want to know if I should buy it or not

stangspeed 11-18-2005 06:36 PM

lol..You dont need a kit..waste of money...Buy some brake cleaner, and clean the poop out of them"really really good" hint "wire brush". Then get some paint designed for engine blocks..That stuff lasts forever if you 3 coat it...

Well it lasted about 1 year and I out 2 coats of black and maybe 2 or 3 coats of clearcoat(the high temp engine paint). Looked freaking great with the Mustangs I put on in silver let me find a pic. I dont think i'll do the Mustang again on the sides but looked great but after washing and washing it wears it down and one day a matter a fact 2 days ago the rear calipers paint started peeling off....I cleaned the calipers real good the can that comes in the kit isnt enough go out and get more caliper degreaser/cleaner like I did. I just dont think this paint was made to last a long time. So maybe something new would be good. Yes I am the King of the Calipers....lol..I wanted a one of a kind look

I payed $12 ....it was a special at Advanced auto...so it lasted for what it was worth. But I put a lot of work into it

Do you have to unbolt the calipers from the brake lines to paint them?

No you dont but it is better to get the whole caliper.........I will this time around......More coverage=less peeling later on because it's cooked on like a rubber at least thats what it feels like when I peeled it off.

would fluid come out of the lines?

Prepare for brake fluid to seep out all over the place. Last time I removed a caliper being in a medical feild of work right now I treated it like a wound raise the line up higher than the caliper till you remove it then try and find a tall cup to let it seep into. Naturally your going to need more brake fluid and bleed/pressurize your brake system again.
