had quite a scare today!

So I'm pulling out of the parking lot at work to go get lunch when my manager flags me down pointing to something on the ground so I stop and roll down the window to see what he wants.

Well it turns out there was a good sized puddle of fresh oil sitting there where my car had been so I take a quick peek under the car and sure enough, there's a bunch of oil spread around down there so I take it easy driving home and take the truck back to work after I eat.

I take off of work a bit early so that I'll have a bit of daylight and hurry home to jack the car up and see what's going on. I figured that one of my blower oil lines was messed up since I made them out of heater hose (replacing them this winter with braided steel lines). Turns out that the oil is comming out around the oil filter, I look at it and can see the gasket sticking out so I go to the autoparts store and get another filter. I swap them when I get back and sure enough there's 2 gaskets in there. The last time I changed oil the gasket stayed on the engine.

Funny thing is, this makes me glad that a spark plug blew out cuz that kept me from driving a 24 hour round trip with the oil filter set up like this!!! If that thing would have started spewing oil going down the interstate then I'd have a blown motor!!!!

you have the worst luck with cars.

MattJ 11-02-2005 09:06 PM

You should just sell it and give me the supercharger. That way you dont have to deal with those kind of problems..
;)

actually I think I have pretty good luck,,, lol

if the plug hadn't gone out I'd have gone to tennesse and maybe had the engine run dry on the interstate.

as it sits now I caught it in town and just put a new filter on.

and no, I'll be keeping the blower :p

You were lucky MachGT. That's why it's VERY important to rub alittle oil on gasket before you install it. The gasket is actually crimped a little bit to the filter. Once you tighten it up it crimps even more to to filter itself. But if you dont oil the top of gasket before installing it may get a dry seal to your filter mount on the motor ( i'm guessing it's why the gasket didn't come off with the old filter). ALWAYS dab some oil on the gasket. How do I know?? I work at Purolator Products. Any questions bout filters I should able to answer.

Oh and BTW use a motorcraft filter or better yet a Purolator Pure 1 filter. We are the sole supplier of motorcraft right now,, (HA HA Fram and wix). sorry for the blatant plug for my company... :D

I always put some oil on the filter and only use motorcraft filters ;) It doesn't help much when you double gasket the thing by mistake!

mach gt i think i asked u this on bmc but i cant find the thread again, how much did it cost for the mach 1 hood and shaker all togethor after install?

MachGT 11-03-2005 05:01 PM

I got all OEM parts from a guy who didn't want the hood on his mach 1 (he swapped in an 03 cobra drivetrain) I got it in azure blue so I had to pay to get it painted $311.

I paid $600 + $50 for the hood plus a friend delivering it so I wouldn't have to pay freight shipping. Then there's some misc hardware and I had a friend make the aluminum bracketry for free.

I was assuming the gasket from the old filter didn't come off with the filter. Is that correct? It should have came off but always a good idea to check it..
