the stock shifter isnt that good, you will screw up your tranny before you break the shifter.

prolly never, they are pretty strong.. it's the long throws that make people replace them with a shorter throw shifter... no becasue they break!!
Steeda short shifter, haven't missed a gear since... worth every penny, you will hear more trans noise though...
i 2nd that, and i think you will break the tranny first, maybe if you put it in third and started kicking from the back you could break it ???
Do Saleen's have the same shifter as the Ford Mustangs? I've had friends who have GT's who say that my shifter has a very short throw
Haven't heard of anyone breaking them . Just missing gears...
If you power shift with your stock shifter you will mess up your transmission in no time! Buy yourself an aftermarket shifter which will reduce the chance of breaking a shift fork! :icon_rr:

power shifting? I've heard the term before but not to sure what it means exactly.
well, i will grab my source!
Taken From www.10w40.com "Powershifting, grannyshifting, and double-clutching. Powershifting is effectively shifting without fully releasing the clutch. You keep the gas pedal down while you only use about half the clutch travel to shift hard and fast. This is incredibly hard on a transmission, and in fact simply will not work on most transmissions. Without fully pushing in the clutch on most cars, you can neither pull the shifter out of gear nor put it into a new one (and it will grind as you try). Granny shifting is when you take a slight pause in neutral between gears when shifting. So instead of going smoothly from 2nd to 3rd, you pull out of 2nd, stop for a moment in neutral along the way, then go into 3rd, and let the clutch out again. Very slow. And double-clutching? It's like granny shifting except that you actually let the clutch out when you're in neutral, bring up the engine RPMs again, then push in the clutch and go into the next gear. And you do it all VERY fast. This was especially necessary on older cars before synchro gears smoothed the processes of changing gears in the gearbox. It is also a way to avoid grinding gears on transmissions that have been damaged by powershifting too much." |
they get real sloppy, ive tried them all, i think the blu thunder is the tightest one i have used, just my 2cents
The stock shifter def. sucks.... I hate it... But I still have it... I just don't try to race..... until I get my steeda.....
It's hard to find 3rd somtimes..... until I got used to it I kept puttin it in 5th...Damn it!...lol whata PITA |
If you are looking at a new shifter look at the MT shifter, I have one and it is great!! Just as good as a Steeda Tri-Ax just a lot cheaper.

is it a short shifter?
I want to find a shifter that is very smooth and is a short shifter. The shifter I have now (The Saleen Quick ratio 5 speed) is a pretty short but I want to find something a little more smoother while keeping the same ratio or have an even shorter one. |
the only ones that are really popular are the tri-ax and the pro 5.0 from what i've heard that is
i have the steeda.. nice shifter works good... i guess... i haven't really had a good trans for longer than maybe 2months and haven't driven the car itself in over a month... so it's hard for me too tell right now... lol
