Actually, i would love to do the interior all silver and black to match the outside of the stang, however, i dont feel like replacing the tan seats, tan carpet, tan roof, and tan back seats in order to do this, so i figured im gonna throw a buttload of black but heep enough tan to where the carpet and seats dont look out of place.

Dammit, I finally got the shift bezel taped off good, and when I started painting the paint wrinkled up. Now it looks like ****.

Now I've got to strip the paint or sand it off, then retape the bezel, and then repaint it.

Dammit....

The paint wrinkled up????????????????????????
What do you mean?

Im sure im gonna be swearing up a storm tomorrow when i start trying to pull out the dashboard.

DarkSith 10-20-2005 04:53 PM

I'll put some pics up tomorrow so you can see what I'm talking about. I must have not prepped it good enough. That **** just ruined my whole night.

When you start painting yous, make sure you take your time, cause **** happens, and if you're like me it will lead to you getting pissed and breaking stuff.

Thanks for the warning. The How-to is saw on mustang world advised that you just need to clean the stuff, not really sand it up.
What kind of prep work are you doing?

i plan to take it slow. Im gonna get everything out, take my time with any taping i gotta do and do it right. I also plan to do at least 3 light coats

I figure once i have stuff out, and taped off(if needed) and cleaned up, do a light layer of paint so nothing drips, write the time i finished painting on a sticky and put it next to the piece so i can make sure i get enough time in between coats. I probably need to pick up some more black too, i plan on painting almost half the interior parts black.

So does this stuff go on like regular spray paint? I got the Interior Vinyl/plastic duplicolor paint, plus a can of the Car/truck/suv silver paint for the silver accents.

I cant wait to get started on this. My g/f is gonna have a lot of fun tomorrow. <ROFL> sittin on her butt watching me do this. I oughtta put her to work.

Im gonna take TONS of pics, especially of the dash removal, tape job, everything and post it all up.

If you never see anything on this again from me, that means i totally screwed everything up and dont want to admit it. <ROFL>

DarkSith 10-20-2005 05:39 PM

As for as prep work I just whipe the pieces down good with rubbing alcohol.

Sounds like you got your plan worked out. I'll be looking for the pics, so don't mess up. :)

wade95 10-21-2005 06:35 AM

Did you go to my links at all? You gotta lightly scuff and use a good cleaner to get all the old armor all and stuff off. A red sctoch-brite pad and denatured alcohol work awesome. Pay attn to the humidity and use real light coats. I had to do my dashboard twice (prep twice as well) because of the humidity and the dye was "blushing" on me. Take your time. Painting/Dying is hard for me as well casue I wanna paint it and put it back together instead of giving it time to cure/dry.

Grimmz 10-21-2005 09:29 AM

How hard is it to take out the middle console peice? Can you do it without taking out the stereo?

floppy 10-21-2005 10:00 AM

hey guys, im a little late on this but i've been planning on painting the interior of my car to black also. and now that i just bought a second car i can finally take my car apart to paint it. the only question i have though is how are you guys taking out the dash? i was just planning on masking everything in the car and painting the dash in the car.

also, i my second car is an explorer and it has a black steering wheel so im just going to swap it over to my car, how hard is that to do? has anybody done it before? i just dont want airbags exploding in my face.

Its very easy in the 2001-2004, it just pops out. In the 1999-2000 you have to remove the radio, take an allen rench undo two bolts, then pop it out.

Cool, so it's just like the side panels on the door?

wade95 10-21-2005 12:24 PM

If the top of the dash is black already just leave it in the car.

Anyone need an AWESOME condition 95 hood? Second repaint. On a scale of 1-10 i give it a 9.

cobra4123 10-21-2005 12:48 PM

what color matched the laser red? i think i'm gonna do this....

Grimmz 10-21-2005 12:53 PM

Wow, looks Good Wade, what is that on your hood? looks kinda cool...

Well, here's a pic of the center piece. You can't realy tell the sift bezel is messed up unless you look pretty close. So it will probably be a while before I take the effort to fix it.

Do you guys think I should leave the interior as is, or go ahead and do it like the second pic. When I did my vert I had everything but the gauge cluster painted.

foncarelli 10-21-2005 02:25 PM

Looks great.

dsdaddy 10-21-2005 02:45 PM

Nice!!! Time to go get some paint!

Looks to me like there is a child on his hood...just a guess though...

and Darksith...I see you have very big feet, what size are we, 11/12?

Try a 10, 10.5

But seriously do you guys think painting my car to look like that second pic will be over doing it a bit, or will it look better.

wade95 10-21-2005 06:14 PM

That bra is pretty rare,,I have yet to see another one like it. Now that I have the black Cervini's hood and the stock hood off I have no use for it. That is Wade Jr. standing next to the hood. As for the color that was used on the interior,,,,,,hold on,,,let me see where it is,,,,got a pic here someplace,,,,,,,(insert Jeopardy theme music..............)

I bought this at Wal Mart in the automotive section. These are little cans 6oz 10z???? Cant remember. Someone stuck the Claret Red on the wrong shelf and I ended up buyin it. I used the CURRANT RED. It's not a perfect match, but close. Also picked up the shiny clear. DO NOT buy satin clear. Not as shiny

wade95 10-21-2005 06:19 PM

Wish I had the wifes new 6.1MP camera for these shots. These were take on a 3.1mp sony camera. Im happy w/the results. Only downfall,,,door sill plates take a beating and scuffed in a couple spots. Gonna just go get some black ones.
http://www.tbmustangs.com/albums/album02/MVC_073Fab.jpg

Only pieces that I bought in black were the center console and steering wheel. EVERYTHING else was dyed.

Next trick will be to try the wire hiding thing. It makes an engine bay look so much cleaner.

yeah i've seen that article before. but my dash is brown. thats the only thing thats kept me from painting my interior already. the dash is gonna be a bitch to paint.

edit: wade, how hard was it to change out your steering wheel?

wade95 10-22-2005 11:46 AM

Piece o cake.

1st and foremost. DISCONNECT BATTERY
Pop the little plastic caps off the side of the steering wheel.
Remove the screws holding the airbag in place
Carefully disconnect electrical wires,,and set aside
(It was easy to paint this as well)

People say you can smack the back of the steering wheel w/hands and it will come off. BS!!! I borrowed a steering wheel puller. 5 minute job. Haynes manual says to buy new bolt for steering wheel. I used the old one.

there's a guy in our local club that wants me to do his interior as well, but he has the tan/brown dash. told him I'd do it only if the upper dash was already black. I AM NOT pulling a dashboard out of a car. Especially one that is a ton nicer than my car. Good luck w/the project at hand.

w01stang 10-22-2005 12:19 PM

looks great good thread

Grimmz 10-23-2005 06:14 PM

Hey DARKSITH have you thought about painting your mustang on your steering wheel. I painted mine on my old v6 after i bought my interior trim package and it just set everything off real nice. I just bought model paint from walmart and a small brush, it took about 20 minutes but it looked real nice when it was done

Are those decals over your trim? or are they actual replaced parts?
