Stoke me on the Supercharger.

I have a Vortech supercharger sitting on a cooler in my garage. It isnt mine, but could be for 1k, would require 1k for install and fuel injectors.

This is totally do-able, but honestly i want to get OUT of debt, not further in. but 2k isnt that bad, plus it is a hell of a deal for an SC.

You guys with blown rides, what should i do? I'd be 2k further in debt, +100hp, and no more warranty. is it worth it?

hmm... i wonder if i could sell the warranty i would void back to the dealership and pay off a bunch of the SC......

Fat Lard 09-08-2005 12:00 PM

You're right. That is an awesome price for a sc. But don't dig the hole even deeper. If he is your friend, he'll understand your situation and maybe sell it to you some other time....later in the future. In my opionion, it's not worth it. But it's up to you.

Jack The Ripper 09-08-2005 12:05 PM

thats the biggest issue i have right now. I might find it a lot easier to afford than i had thought though,. I have my own house and i rent out a couple rooms to my buddys, one of them might be leaving soon and the guy with the s/c might be moving in in his place, me and him have discussed the idea of knocking his rent down 100 per month for 10 months,... then i just gotta get some new fuel injectors and have it installed. <g>

Fat Lard 09-08-2005 12:11 PM

Personally, I still think you should wait on it. Just don't get yourself further in debt, keep your dignity and your money in your pocket. Wait on it.

Badfish 09-08-2005 12:13 PM

Is a fuel pump included too? cus youll need one of those, youll also need to run oil lines to the s/c, and youll need a tune IMO if your in debt, not worth it

madmatt 09-08-2005 02:37 PM

Dude, if you KNOW that he'll do the rent thing, and that the other guy is movin out, go for it, but only if you know the kit is COMPLETE other than the injectors. It could be more costly to piece the kit together than to buy a brand new one.

venom 09-08-2005 02:51 PM

If it is complete and not worn out I would buy it then wait unitl you paid off the 1k then do the rest but you will not find a better deal.

Jack The Ripper 09-08-2005 03:00 PM

Yeah it is complete, the only thing missing are the injectors. Other than that, its all there. He has a buddy who works in an auto shop who said normally it is about 1k for installation, but he would do it for him or a friend for 500.

as for being in debt, it sucks, but that is why i have a job. At this point i am a little over a quarter million in debt. Gotta love being a homeowner. <laugh>

Actually, if the other guy moves out and this guy moves in im totally going for it, but im not going to install it untill after this winter and the summer starts again, untill then ill just hang onto it. By then i plan to have all my debts cleared again except house and car. so i'll still be 1/4million in debt. <laugh>

I really want that SC. hehehehe.. i ride in his cobra and.. holy crap.. i want that kind of accelleration.

Hey, just curious, at sea level what could i expect to be running with auto, x-pipe, straights, and a 12lb supercharger? i should be around 315-330 at the wheels at this altitude. anyone know what kind of times a supercharged GT runs in the 1/4mile?

venom 09-08-2005 03:17 PM

BTW a home is the best debt you have so make sure you are able to keep up payments.

MattJ 09-08-2005 03:32 PM

At 12 pounds you can kiss your engine bye bye. Its a steal and if you arent sure, do what I do. Grab a quarter and flip it.
:D

Yah, mortgage is the most important bill for sure, never been late on a payment, even without any roomates i can still keep up on bills. But life is more fun when you have a few extra dollars from time to time ;)
Been in the house a year and a half, property values here go up pretty quick, i already have about 15k in equity.

I totally dig having a house. I can be as loud as i want whenever i want and i dont have to worry about neighbors givin me problems.

Plus i can make the place nicer. ive already replaced all the doors, all the outlets, all the trim, new hardwood floors, new carpet in basement, framed out and built new 2 rooms in basement, installed garage door opener, new light fixtures, new paint inside and out, granite countertops, slate flooring in kitchen and dining room, hottub installed, swampcooler installed, and the past 2 days ive been working on recessing my stereo equipment into the wall. (good thing that wall backs to garage). Almost done with the stereo in the wall, still need to do some more work. Done a bunch of landscaping in front and back, replaced half the windows already(expencive!). I have 2 friends in the real estate business, they say if i ever want to sell the place they will have it sold in an afternoon. The place IS that nice now. <rofl> First time i saw it it was a total dump. I bought it off the Ex-Ex-Ex girlfriends mom, it was in terrible shape so i got a good deal on it. No floors, no trim, cracked windows, nasty carpet in basement, holes, etc etc... I could go on for days listing all the crap ive done to the place. <grin>

The mustang in the garage is the cherry on top. >:)

The best part is i have done all of it myself. Ive turned into the ultimaate freakin handman. I have the nicest house in the block :) Just takes a little elbow grease and about 15k of materials. <grin> That aint the debt tho, that is paid, the Debt is the Plasma TV i bought after my ex dumped me. <lol> between the TV and cables and 3 uear warranty, i blew about 5k. Worth it? Hell yeah. <laugh>

Well, i can get different pulls to change the boost. What would i need to do to my engine so it could handle 12lb boost without damaging the engine?

MattJ 09-08-2005 03:53 PM

I wish I had them kinda bucks.
:(

Welp, im by no means rich, i just take my time with my projects. you can get a lot done in a year and a half. :) Im still not done, its a ranch style house and the upstairs bathroom needs to be remodeled, i already have some of what i need, im just dreading not having that bathroom working for several days, cause then ill have to share with my basement dwellers. <grin>

madmatt 09-09-2005 04:50 AM

Well, youd need about 4k to forge and build your engine *note, this is about the going rate for a built shortblock, you might could do it for less. Your house sounds great. Man, if you think you can handle your bills with the 2k into a supercharger, do it. But make sure you get a great tune, or you'll nuke the engine that much faster.

Wow, 4k is a bit much. <grin> I wonder if i could just get a different pully and lower the boost to say, 9lbs?

madmatt 09-09-2005 11:20 AM

Of course you can. You can get a big enough pulley to make 6 psi if you really want, but most people have about 8-10 psi and good tune and they are fine.

Thats good to know. I wouldnt want to have to get my junk forged and spend 4k unless i really had to. would be nice to keep the SC under control so it doesent destroy my ride. My buddy's cobra runs at 9psi, maybe ill just leave it there.

Fat Lard 09-19-2005 04:08 PM

So what's the deal with the s/c?

madmatt 09-19-2005 04:09 PM

Yea 8-10 psi seems to be the "safe" range. Just get a great tune, youll be fine.

Stangeralf 09-19-2005 06:16 PM

I would just wait until my warranty expired.
