Girl problems.

Ok, well, tonight has to be one of the worst nights of my life next to the one when my grandfather died. My girlfriend and I of a year and five months broke up. I know this is a mustang site, not dating 101, but I had to get it out somewhere. Im trying to be positive, and think about the fact that I just started college, yadda yadda yadda, but it hurts like hell. To see someone almost everyday, to fall head over heels in love with them, and be with them for almost 2 years of your life, and then one day realize that its over, sucks big time. We still wanna be friends, but I know how that goes, but Im going to give it my best shot. Damn this sucks, everything makes me think of her. Well, just wanted to get some off my chest, tommorrows a new day, and no, Im not suicidal like some crazy kids, thats just stupid to me. Ill just go by the "If you love something set it free, if its meant to be it will" philosophy. Who knows what will come of this. Chin up.

You are a college student. This is a positive experience!!!

madmatt 08-25-2005 08:02 PM

Yea, but its still rough. Ill make the best of it though. Just going to take some time.

Women

Women. Sounds like she broke up with you, not the reverse. All I can say (as a 52 year old male with the scars to prove it) is that women have good instincts about relationships - and understanding relationships is one of the things women do better than men. She has self knowledge and that insight is prompting her to make the change. In all likelihood, at your ages, this is all about her, not you.

If you possibly can, accept it as a painful gift.

Of course, when it comes to affairs of the heart, freedom is an over-rated privilege. Find distractions and busy work for your hands. Work on that Mustang - get out input. We may not know squat about relationships, but the guys on this forum know how to hop up a 'stang!

Remember that, as a free male in this free nation, you can take a chance - chat up a girl too pretty/rich/smart/talented for you, and see if she wants to dance. I did. And I ended up marrying her.

Drop us a line on this thread, if you need to. Sharing a forum is about more than just the main topic. "Life" is always the great adventure.

Yea, it was definately all her on this one. I knew at the beginning of the week it was heading this way, just had a terrible feeling about it all week. And yes, Im going to say that I am being optimistic about this situation. This gives me the oppurtunity to test the waters for the first time in about 2 years. Im not going to go out and find another one tommorrow, as I still love this girl with all my heart, but Im not going to sulk about it. Im too young to do that. I guess the hardest thing is thinking that she was the one. I know that sounds stupid, but everything just fit, but as time went on, it kinda deteriorated. Oh well, we'll see what happens in the future. We both have a TON of growing up to do.

Beer lots of beer

tripleblack 08-25-2005 08:17 PM

More advice

One last piece of advice. Keep your right foot out of the 'stang until you've had a few days to settle down. Easy to make a mistake when distracted, y'know. If you follow ice's advice about the beer, keep this in mind particularly.

One thing about a car - she never leaves you unless you drive her to it!

(OK, bad joke, I know...)

No, I dont drink, so thats out, but yes, the car is kinda a calm place to go when Im mad, sad, down, whatever. So its nice to have that.

WaterDR 08-26-2005 04:37 AM

Matt:

I was engaged once...ring and all. She broke it off and was married three months later to another guy. Her reason she gave me was "I am not ready to be married". The fact that she got married was great for me, because I could move on. In the end, things worked-out for the best.

I have now been married for 12 years.

So, here is what I have learned after 24 years of women and dating:

1 - Never let them see you while you down when they break it off. Be strong and seem un-phased by the whole thing. She may actually want to come back that way. If you are a cry-baby then they will see that as a sign of weakness and just be glad that they left you.

2 - There are more fish in the sea. Get passed it and enjoy the school year. Don't be the guy that "just broke up with his girl friend". Other chicks hate this attitude.

That's it. That is all I know. Now tell me how to fix my car.

madmatt 08-26-2005 04:47 AM

LOL Blake, yea, tears were shed, but im pretty much over that now. Me and this girl were close, like best friend close, and I still wanna be friends, its just gunna take some time. Hell, maybe we will get back together, but im not going to dwell on that thought. Shes definately the first true love, Ive dated girls before, but, never a relationship like this. Oh, and Ill fix your car for you, you just have to send it down with a signed over title. Ill take care of it for you, Ill even send you pictures from time to time...:) Thanks for the kind words and advice guys.

Maybe it was for the best man! Hell I just broke up with my girl of 4 yrs about a month ago! I mean i still found her attractive and all, but I just didn't feel the same about her! I told her we needed a break! I know it broke her heart and all but it was for the best! I didn't wanna keep lying to her about the way i felt about her so it was time! Now i'm about to star my third yr of college and there will be plenty of girls to meet and have fun with! ;) ....just keep your chin up and try and meet as many girls as possible!

What kind of "brake?" E-Brake? Disc Brake? Drum Brake? Or maybe you mean Break Pads. Lord knows I use those in my relationships with my women

spike_africa 08-26-2005 10:34 AM

i was with a girl for 4 years and she broke up with me about a year and a half ago, it sucked at first but it got bette rbest thing i did was find antoher girl who i really care about now. and its been great.

madmatt 08-26-2005 11:06 AM

Yea, Im trying to keep the thought that its for the best. I could kinda see the deterioration of the relationship, and how my feelings were changing as well, but its hard. 4 years is a long time.

A kit-kat break of course! ;)

Shambles 08-26-2005 11:15 AM

No, it couldnt have been a kit-kat break, because you said that you and your girlfriend had a "brake"

Obviously its not a "break" but a "brake," thus being an automotive part. So you had an automotive part w/ your ex-g/f?

madmatt 08-26-2005 11:17 AM

Holy Thread Hijack Batman!

Shambles 08-26-2005 11:18 AM

How do you know? Do you know where she is right now?

cobra4123 08-26-2005 11:51 AM

She must be dead

ShakerScoops 08-26-2005 12:10 PM

I feel for you man! It's tough when you really love that special someone and one day out of nowhere, it's over!! Can you still be friends? Possible, but unlikely. It's OK to be civil to each other but if you're going to try and hang out together and get along, probably not a good choice. I know it's painful especially right now. But as you meet new people and hang out with other girls you will find that you were taken down this path for a reason.
After my first love, I never loved with that same intensity again. But I did find in my journey through time that my perfect woman was out there. And she let me know that it was OK to love again. And that too will happen to you! Patience and time will heal the wounds......Good luck in your journey forward. We are all here for you!!!:D
