My wife has been looking around at cameras and has narrowed it down to this D3100 kit. What do you guys think? Is this a good all around set up? Good lenses to have? Good price? This will be her first digital slr.

She was originally looking at something like this:

Is she better off sticking with the D3100 or will she wish she had gotten the D90?? Is it really worth the extra $400..?

No way. *punch your smug face*

I think she'll grow out of the D3100 real quick, and then she'll have to upgrade and buy a whole new camera and learn a whole new camera. In my personal opinion I say get the D90, and then just let her limit herself to what she messes with until she learns it. Then as she progresses she can start playing with it, and the programming modes more and more.

Not to mention the D90's kit lens is a MUCH better lens IMO. And it also has a much better sensor, meaning even on just normal auto-mode it will naturally give better pictures and do better in low-light situations.

Then voila, she becomes a semi-pro and wants to start a business like my GF lol. Then you're stuck trying to design her a website and teach her more.....ohhh now I'm just ranting lol.
