real mach 1 Chin Spoiler

im looking for the chin spoiler that isnt plastic looking. i believe its this one http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...1-Chin-Spoiler but in some customer pictures on there it looks like it can go either way.. any body no for sure if thats the real mach 1 chin?

00blkstanggt 03-31-2011 01:01 PM

The factory one is plastic. That's it.

TUFF 4.6 03-31-2011 01:07 PM

I think what hes saying is the finish. The OEM ones are almost like a non-painted or flat finish, where the aftermarkets ones are more shiny matte finish. This one says FORD so it should be OEM.

08mustang_gt 03-31-2011 02:02 PM

That's OEM. They all look like that. Using armor all or back to black is what makes it look shiny.

probiker427 03-31-2011 03:24 PM

alright good. yeah i want that flat look to it. not that plastic looking bullshit..thanks fellas

The factory Ford one is Matte black and some of the aftermarket one are semi gloss and some are matte. The one I got from AM about two years ago is the aftermarket semi gloss one. ;)

08mustang_gt 03-31-2011 03:36 PM

I've never seen one not semi-gloss looking. They all have some type of gloss to them.

probiker427 03-31-2011 04:06 PM

yeah i got one from AM last year and it had that cheap plastic look to it.

Well it is AM....as of lately they've started to disappoint me more and more.

I don't want to turn this into a drawn out debate but SOME (not all) of the aftermarket chins have a glossier finish than the OEM chin.

How so? I just ordered my D-specs from them and received the great service I'm used to from them.

For the record, the glossier finish doesn't bother me at all. I don't prefer it but I just don't mind either way.

yeah im looking at the first pic. thats what i want, i dont like the second one

jameslf 03-31-2011 06:22 PM

Since you already have the "glossy" one, have you considered scuffing it down good and hitting it with some matte black paint like bumper coating?

PColav6 03-31-2011 06:25 PM

Stang mods sells the OEM matte finish.

I've been chinspoiler-less for about 6 months now, I tell you it's like being in rehab or something.

They have disappointed me not only in the products they are offering, but by the methods they are doing it. Stack Racing products are nothing more than cheap chinese ripoffs of popular, often american made, products such as Accufab plenums and TB's. You can just tell that AM is selling whatever to have the largest profit margins. They send thier popular sellers off to China to be reverse enginered and made with cheaper materials and in turn create a "product".

Anyways, back on topic.

I bought my chin spoiler in 2005, but I can't remember if it was from AM, back when it was Mustang Tuning.. It may have been website from Cali. But mine was not at all shiney, And there are 2 different ways to mount them. They are actually meant to be mounted from the ends of your bumber 1st , then set back in the middle. That's the way I did mine. Some people mount it even all the around the bumber. Kinda makes it look bowed in at the ends. Any way i seen shiney ones that look good. and Flat pourous looking ones like mine. It all depends on what kind of plastic it was molded with... ;)

Shadow_Stang 03-31-2011 10:03 PM

This may sound like a stupid question, but does the chin spoiler do anything? Like is it suppose to direct air up into the bumper towards the radiator? ...or is it just for looks?

Have you ever noticed how fcking ugly a new age Mustang front bumber is without one?
They got a lip that's visible for a mile. Plus it has gaps in it too. But yes it's for looks, trying to bring retro back to the 70's style Mach 1.. Or you can say it's for down force for the front end... LOL.. :smokin:

And see to me, the first just looks old and like it needs some back to black. But they both looks "semi-gloss" to me. I know what you mean though, but from a distance I'm just saying they look no different to me. One just looks like it needs some TLC.

Its because of the exact reason 01FR500 posted. They've been offering nothing but cheap "rice" accessories lately. In no way are they near the company that Lethal or D'Agostino is, the only thing keeping them alive is their free shipping.

I LOVE AM, but this cheap Stack Racing bullshit just seems like desperation to get more people to buy pointless knock-off accessories. They've become more about the money than the actual enthusiast. For me personally, AM no longer offers anything of taste to me. There are hardly any parts for 03-04 Cobras on there, and the ones that are available are wayyyy over-priced. Suspension parts I'd much rather get through Maximum Motorsports as they actually price match and do bundle deals for you, just gotta call them and ask.

This is just my opinion, their service is great, but whenever you offer cheap parts that usually end up not working I'd sure as hell hope so. I had to get FOUR different sequential tail light kits for my '08 GT because each one they sent me until the last had some type of problem. The service was top notch, but if the part would've been top notch in the first place then it wouldn't have mattered. And I came to find out I was not alone there at all.

Sorry to destroy the thread OP. :(

The guy with the red Stang in the customer pictures didn`t read the intructions as its sitting behind the lip of the spoiler and it looks like shit IMO. Look at the grey one with the bra. Its sitting different and looks flush and neater.

According to Ford Instructions theres one way to fit them and thats from the centre to the ends
I just fitted mine that way last week . Its sitting perfectly flush with the the spoiler and theres the half inch gap at either end. If you start from the ends it appears the thing isn`t long enough and it ends up sitting `in` and looking bad I know becuase i kinda tried that way as well. Not looking for an argument as yours looks ok in your sig pic. Maybe there IS two ways but I only got one set of instructions..

Took last week.

BLazE 04-03-2011 08:08 AM

When I got my chin spoiler, the instructions said to make the ends flush with the bumper, and the middle part is supposed to look not flush.

bigkeeko 04-03-2011 12:52 PM

Ahhh fuck knows, mine is on and I like it. :D
