Well this sucks
 

So about 2 1/2 weeks ago i get diagnosed with mono. Whoopie. Anyways Monday night I get home from work (i refuse to do nothing most of the time) and have extreme pain in my abdominal area, enough to make it hard to move. So tuesday I go into urgent care and they send me straight to the ER where i get to go through 5 1/2 hours of tests, then wait an hour for them to find me a room (which they couldnt) then say I dont need to stay overnight.

My mom calls and says she is uncomfortable with what they didnt find (she does have a strong medical background) and I say call my Dr there and see what he says.
Apparently after 2 1/2 weeks there shouldnt be abdominal or chest pain... and my glands should have de-swollen, one of them is about golf ball size.... so he says i dont care where you need to go to the hospital because something else is going on.

This sucks, i am pretty sure my track season will be fucked this year and there is no way I am going to pass one class, or get the grade I need for pharm school in another one.

And to get caught up in school i will have to quit my job (not that i worked alot anyways), so there is no way I will be able to do everything I should do to my car before I get it back on the road this spring

That does suck, to throw a wrench in your plans, but sometimes life gets disrupted like that. A guy in my Biochemisitry class got Mono a few weeks ago and missed a few days of class and also a test, which is enough material to put you behind for the rest of the semester. He came back and worked hard to learn the missed material and made up the test.

I wish i was back in biochem instead lol... I get to spend the night in the hospital so they can find out why there is fluid around my spleen... my worst course at the moment is physical biochemistry aka biophysics

Mono? Isn't that like a severe case of cooties or something?? Kissing disease.. :(

Sorry, don't mean to make light of this, but I haven't heard the term mononucleosis, since I was in High School. Which BTW was a very very long time ago... LOL.. :o

Hey Earl, It's cooties when you're young, as you get older this can be some bad shit. A friend of mine, he's 38 and has been fighting mono for about 9 weeks. His spleen and liver are also inflamed like Dragracer said.

He has a 3 year old son and the doctor told him that if his son were to jump on him the right way that this could cause his organs to rupture, also if he were to get into a wreck (like a little fender bender) this could be life threating.

Brock Lesner had this shit for while and it put him out of commission for a long time.

Usually people get it in HS. It can be transmitted through sharing drink or food too (which is how I think I got it because my brother has had it and you carry it the rest of your life where it becomes periodically active). By all means make fun, I could use some laughs... anyways no matter when you get it everyone reacts different with a trend of older=worst. I had a friend who had it last year and she barely needed bedrest.
And TUFF I feel for your friend, that was part of my problem... I work as a personal care assistant and had a 3 year old get a couple good kicks into my stomach. Since then my spleen has gotten much larger and has fluid buildup around it... its not ruptured though so thats good news. Im awaiting tests today to figure out whats going on (again)

I knew a guy in HS that had this and I didnt have a clue what it was at the time other than him being totally a zombie for most of the time...figured he was hitting the bong more than ever is all.
