5 cent deposit

How does this work in the states that have this on thier plastic bottles? i.e. Do they give you money if you bring them back or do they just charge you for the hell of it? I know Calif. and some of the northern states have this.

I remember when you could bring drink bottles back to the store and get money for them. I have wondered about this for a long time.

I know in Maryland they give you so many cents per pound. I had a friend of mine who turned in around 30 BIG trashbags full of crushed cans and bottles and ending up with around 80 bucks.

yeah thats how it is in PA, reminds of a neighbor my gram had yrs ago that would go around the area and pick up cans and then line his driveway and run them over to flattened them with this old car he had. After a while he eventually saved enough of the money up he received to buy his wife a anniversary ring at some point.

Michigan doesn't have it but I'm pretty sure it's like pop can returnables. When you buy the water bottle say for $1.00 they will charge you you $1.05 for the deposit. When you return the bottle you get your 5 cents back.

We can do that same here, you are pretty much selling it for scrap.

Thats the way I was thinking. I seen the commerical on tv the other day that we throw away enough plastic bottles each day or what every......... year to go around the Earth 3x. If you take 5 cents times a couple million = pretty good chunk of change.
