Miles...How many is TOO many?
In your opinion in buying a used car, specifically a mustang, how many miles is just way too many? What if the car has been well taken care of, and drives/rides amazingly?
|
It's kinda up to the individual and what they are looking for. Depends on how old the car is and such. My car has 138,000 miles on it and drives fine, but would I buy a used car with that many miles, no. Not unless it was some used beat up civic that I was just using as a beater car. I would say if you're looking for a used mustang, don't go higher than like 50K miles or so. Depending on the year of course. Obviously if it was like a 08-09 with that many miles, I'd walk away.

I'm actually looking for a 1999-2004 model GT, it's just one I found was a 2000 with 130k miles, it drives good, was maintained, looks sharp...
|
I got my 02 last year with 103k and no problems. It's a used car no matter what brand, just look it over good and ask a shop around that you would trust. I know that some shop close to me will check a car over for free.

I wouldn't buy it for a DD. As long as it's just going to be a fun car then yeah I'd be all over something like that. When the motor goes you can throw a 4 valve or 5.4 in it and you'll have a Cobra under $10k. lol

See that's what I did, and they said no problem, just maybe a tune up...The big reason I'm trying to find one that I can pay cash on is, no loan to pay every month, and I wanted to swap a cobra engine in, in the near future... |
http://columbia.craigslist.org/pts/1805406045.html I think they forgot to put a 1 in front of the price or this thing wouldn't be worth shit. Plus I was thinking the 04 was the 10th. Just keep looking and don't jump into something. You can find a nice car as long as you take the time to look.

The modular 4.6 is a work horse and if it is properly maintained it will go go go They are also pretty easy to work on if anything goes wrong. If the price is right and the car is in good shape I wouldn't wory to much about 130k on a GT
P.S. v8's aren't the best for DD cause the MPGs aren't all that great but to each his own. |
Scratch the last two guys, I was looking in town today and I found a 2002 GT with 112k miles, modded exhaust, grill delete, almost perfect condition, oh and it's a dark blue.
The guy only wants $6999, good deal? |
When I got mine I gave $6500 with not many mods, so I would try to get it for 6, but not more than your willing to pay. If you would pay 7 for it then it's worth it.

I wouldn't get one with over 75k on it. But thats me.
|
Need your opinion on this guys... 2002 GT with about 55k miles or 2001 Cobra with 95k miles? Both are about 10,000, and look good.
|
Thats a tough call.
The GT would last much longer and be less expensive to keep up. The cobra would be much faster, more comfortable, and ahve lots of extras, and lots more power, and more potential. But at the mileage possibly expensive to keep up. Both seem like good buys. |
The GT would be way cheaper to maintain. It really is a tough call that only you can make. If the cobra is really nice and you know the owners kept up with it and didn't thrash it you should get it.
|
I'd get the cobra. 95K miles for a '01 car is below average milage. But 55K miles for a '02 is really low miles. I'd still get the cobra. If they are both in good shape and kept up with.
Edit: IRS and DOHC is what influenced my decision. |

As far as the fuel mileage thing goes.. I can get 26 MPG (avg) out of my car and I've got 3.73's. Under normal heavy right foot driving I still get about 19-20, but with serious heavy right foot, probably about 6-10.. lol |
