Got a job.
Finally got a job. Gonna be picking up oil on the beach (AKA, walking on the beach 12 hours a day, drinking a lot of water and probably picking up seaweed, because there isn't much oil on our beach)
At the minimum possible pay and if I actually work the hours they say we will, I should be getting around $700/week before taxes. Should last through the summer. So that means I'm buying an engine and transmission of a certain type in August-ish. |
Congrats.... Sounds like easy money
Well I guess I should mention the heat index here is about 120*F everyday, and we have to wear long pants and boots.
good luck with that. lol
I'm used to it. Haha
Lol the heat sucks at the shop I work at heat index of about the same long black pants black shirt and black boots 60 hours a week. You'll get used to it but drink lots of water. I go through nearly 3 gallons a day and not piss once because I sweat so much. But man I wish I lived on the gulf right now that's damn good money for just walking the beach.

Congrats on the job :D
If I lived near the coast I'd do it. But I've seen them out there in full body suits, like a Hazmat type of suit, you know that crap has to be hot. I'd take my camel pack and just suck water all day.
If we wear the hazmat suit we can only work 20 minutes on the hour.
congrats. about to time you get to work.
dude, how exactly did you get the job? Was it pretty easy? Ive been unemployed for about two weeks now and everyone keeps telling me to go do that shit, and I could really use that money. How many days a week do you work, also? I heard it was 7, and then I heard it depends on who you're working for, blah blah blah.
I saw the hiring event on the news. Just check the news and craigslist and you'll see something. It's easy to get..they have no standards. The work and pay varies on the contracting company. This place is supposed to be 60hrs a week, but I have a friend working for a different contractor and he only works when they call him. These people get paid over $50/hr per person they have working so there is no reason not to get people out on the beach. I'll let you know the specifics of my pay and hours when I find out.
why not actually put the money into savings? Just saying.....

It was mostly a joke. But I haven't got anything to save up for dude; I'd rather enjoy my life at this point then make wise financial decisions. I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years now.

Thanks. For the financial stuff. I have health insurance and if
something else were to happen that puts me in a big financial hole i'm fortunate enough to have a father who will help me out. |
I'm in the middle of the road when it comes to saving money. I have always been good at saving money and spending wisely. However, I am soon coming off my parent's insurance, have rent, utilities, car, and everything "adults" pay for, yet, I love to go racing and spend money on the car.
It's just a balancing act. But in Kev's position, I'd say spend it now while you can. Have fun you beach bum. |
Found out it's $10-22/hr and 84 hours a week. Gonna work the 4-4 shift with a buddy. Gonna be busting ass haha
I'd put some money away. You gotta start somewhere. They'll be a time when your older and your friends will be buying houses, and cars and you'll be still at home.
I'm not exactly pro-savings, but i did save majority of my money from when I was 17 or so, and now I have a nice house, car, bike, etc, and alot of income generating projects, and i'm only 21. I believe you should save only when your younger actually. As you get older, you want to put your extra money into things that generate more money. |
Nevermind I forgot you all are young.
