Got a job.

Finally got a job. Gonna be picking up oil on the beach (AKA, walking on the beach 12 hours a day, drinking a lot of water and probably picking up seaweed, because there isn't much oil on our beach)

At the minimum possible pay and if I actually work the hours they say we will, I should be getting around $700/week before taxes. Should last through the summer.

So that means I'm buying an engine and transmission of a certain type in August-ish.

j_gutta870 06-19-2010 06:09 PM

Congrats.... Sounds like easy money

PColav6 06-19-2010 06:18 PM

Well I guess I should mention the heat index here is about 120*F everyday, and we have to wear long pants and boots.

probiker427 06-19-2010 06:45 PM

good luck with that. lol

PColav6 06-19-2010 11:57 PM

I'm used to it. Haha

mustangV6_04 06-20-2010 05:28 AM

Lol the heat sucks at the shop I work at heat index of about the same long black pants black shirt and black boots 60 hours a week. You'll get used to it but drink lots of water. I go through nearly 3 gallons a day and not piss once because I sweat so much. But man I wish I lived on the gulf right now that's damn good money for just walking the beach.

Yea thats my life 5 days a week.... Just make sure you get enough water in you.

Switch 06-20-2010 08:18 AM

Congrats on the job :D

01FR500 06-20-2010 09:59 AM

If I lived near the coast I'd do it. But I've seen them out there in full body suits, like a Hazmat type of suit, you know that crap has to be hot. I'd take my camel pack and just suck water all day.

PColav6 06-20-2010 10:07 AM

If we wear the hazmat suit we can only work 20 minutes on the hour.

Steeda97 06-20-2010 10:12 AM

congrats. about to time you get to work.

NeedACobra 06-20-2010 03:22 PM

dude, how exactly did you get the job? Was it pretty easy? Ive been unemployed for about two weeks now and everyone keeps telling me to go do that shit, and I could really use that money. How many days a week do you work, also? I heard it was 7, and then I heard it depends on who you're working for, blah blah blah.

PColav6 06-20-2010 03:30 PM

I saw the hiring event on the news. Just check the news and craigslist and you'll see something. It's easy to get..they have no standards. The work and pay varies on the contracting company. This place is supposed to be 60hrs a week, but I have a friend working for a different contractor and he only works when they call him. These people get paid over $50/hr per person they have working so there is no reason not to get people out on the beach. I'll let you know the specifics of my pay and hours when I find out.

Must See 06-20-2010 03:33 PM

why not actually put the money into savings? Just saying.....

Im a college student..... So whats your point?

PColav6 06-20-2010 07:13 PM

It was mostly a joke. But I haven't got anything to save up for dude; I'd rather enjoy my life at this point then make wise financial decisions. I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years now.

Trust me, you will enjoy your life A LOT more if you have a cushion of money. But I doubt you will listen. But I have to say it anyway cause if I can save just one person a huge headache its worth it. Also dont go into debt.

Haha. 4v out of a Mach. Want something newer and with low miles..then eaton swap it in the future. Tr3650 transmssion. I don't want to say what I'll be making because I'm not sure yet, but I believe I'll have more than enough for the swap and still have a 'money cushion' I still have the detailing business and make enough from that to enjoy myself.

00blkstanggt 06-21-2010 07:49 AM

Congrats man. It's your money, so I say enjoy it however you want. There's plenty of time to save.

Yeah, but unless he already has some sort of built up savings, he could find himself in a world of hurt if god forbid something bad happens in his life. Im speaking from actual personal expierence here .... it SUCKS balls to not have a coushin.

Bad like what? I was never good at saving my money, and I'm still not. Fortunately for me, I have damn good benefits and a good salary, so if I want to buy something, I will. He's still young, he'll be fine.

PColav6 06-21-2010 08:11 AM

Thanks. For the financial stuff. I have health insurance and if
something else were to happen that puts
me in a big financial hole i'm fortunate enough to have a father who will help me out.

01FR500 06-21-2010 09:49 AM

I'm in the middle of the road when it comes to saving money. I have always been good at saving money and spending wisely. However, I am soon coming off my parent's insurance, have rent, utilities, car, and everything "adults" pay for, yet, I love to go racing and spend money on the car.

It's just a balancing act. But in Kev's position, I'd say spend it now while you can. Have fun you beach bum.

PColav6 06-21-2010 10:14 AM

Found out it's $10-22/hr and 84 hours a week. Gonna work the 4-4 shift with a buddy. Gonna be busting ass haha

Steeda97 06-21-2010 10:30 AM

I'd put some money away. You gotta start somewhere. They'll be a time when your older and your friends will be buying houses, and cars and you'll be still at home.

I'm not exactly pro-savings, but i did save majority of my money from when I was 17 or so, and now I have a nice house, car, bike, etc, and alot of income generating projects, and i'm only 21.

I believe you should save only when your younger actually. As you get older, you want to put your extra money into things that generate more money.

GDP 06-21-2010 12:47 PM

Nevermind I forgot you all are young.
