Selling Stang for Beamer, Benz or Bentley?

My buddy won 25k on a scratch off, bought a used black 03 BMW 330xi 6speed with it. He was caught street racing, I don't know why, earlier this week. Now he wants to sell it and buy a truck. He's selling it for $10,500. He says it KBB's for $13,500. I don't know all the specs and stuff, but I went on there and selected the best of the choices available and it came up $14,900. I'm going to try to sell my 99 mustang for $3,500 and get a loan.

Anyone know anything about BMW's? It has 102k on it but it's a BMW.

The BMW is loaded. leather, the wood trim type stuff, 4 door, driver and pass power seats/heated seats, traction control, good sound system (has the mirror tweeters), 18in rims, buttons on the steering wheel, sun roof, 6 speed :), and some other stuff that I'm forgetting.

your buddy seems like a wanker. 1 ticket and he wants to sell his beamer for a truck? Heh. His loss, maybe your gain.

Yep. He was a BMW mechanic for 12 years.

Knowing Zig, he'll probably say they're a pain in the ass to work on and they're expensive as fuck, haha!

unless you like to drop around a grand every 6 months on car repairs, do not buy a BMW with 100k+ on it.

Ok, that made me laugh.

it can easily be that bad. high mileage bimmers are a $ pit.

Is there a way to tell? I read some posts online that says if you take care of them they last to somewhere around 300k. I'm pretty sure that I can afford a 10k loan but I'm not too sure about paying for repairs as well as the loan.

That should serve as your red flag that you shouldn't get the car. Exercise proper use of common sense in this case.

pop the oil filler cap, if you see ANY sludge on the bottom of the cap...ANYTHING other than oil...run away. BMW's can last 300k...but that requires the original owner to have gotten oil changes every 7500 miles or less, and being that BMW provides free maintenance for up to 4 years, and that the interval is 15,000 miles, almost no one does the "in between" oil changes that are so vital to the longevity of the motors. Overall, the motors are strong...its all the other bullshit that will rape you financially. Fuel pumps, window regulators, brakes, instrument clusters, audio systems, ABS modules...ANY module...they go poof for no reason. You'd be out a grand minimum for each one.

If you have a bunch of extra money that you also wouldnt mind spending it on the repairs for the BMW...AND you REALLY REALLY REALLY want a BMW...then go for it.

Id rather have a mustang than a bimmer... on all points. I could have had many cheap bimmers...like the car you are talking about...plenty became available to me for less than $5,000...with less miles. I've never owned a BMW.

Here's my 2 cents, You are a young man, who likes to keeps his car looking good.

Your gonna get a BMW which you will probably take good care of and keep her nice and shiny. But you will no doubt be tempted to drive it hard because, not your age but because you got a little more power now, and something people will be looking at.

Most people who drive BMW's are either, Rich old people, Rich trophy wifes, or just plain old Euro car enthusiast's. They probably have never dogged the shit out of it. ( Like I would), It's the same way with any kinda performance car you have. It depends on your driving habits.

Most Mustang owners can rest assured if something breaks or wears out because of a little lead footing, it's not can cause them to get a loan to fix it..

And that's for really bad things for a Mustang. BMW is a different beast because parts cost so much. There aint many cheap B'mer parts anywhere,

Just be mindful of that. By another Mustang. IMHO.. :D
