Having issues with Vista and service pack 2
 

Okay, my laptop has had issues for about 2 months now and I just put it off since I could still do what I needed in 'Safe mode with networking'

When I start my laptop in normal mode it locks up on windows loading screen. All I see is the Welcome sign and the dial spinning. Nothing else happens...this has happened before and I was able to fix by running a anti-virus scan pre windows load only because those 2 programs asked me too...I have no idea how I accomplished that task because the windows defender and avast anti-virus doesnt prompt me to do those types of scans. I'm totally lost on that aspect.


Tonight, I somehow loaded Vista service pack 2 while in safe mode...I have no idea how that was possible but it happened. I just finished running a full system scan with windows defender and this turned up an error code of: 0x8007043c.

I've done a search through google but most of the information I found about this is that this was an XP issue and some have fixed by opening command prompt.

Open a new command prompt and execute the following commands:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Now, I could do this but I dont want to F up my laptop.


I think there is some sort of worm thats in my sys32 file and is fucking up my start up. I dont have a option to use my rollback. I cant even do a system restore. I'm sure its possible but I havent seen it.


I'm willing to do a system restore but I need to know which functions to hit before windows starts.

Suggestion 1: System Restore in Safe Mode

1. Click the Start Button, type “system restore” (without quotation marks) in Start Search box, press Enter.

2. Select “Choose a different restore point”

3. Click Next.

4. Select a time when the system works correctly.

5. Click Next and Finish to start the restore.



Can the issue be solved now? If not, let’s follow the suggestion below to go further.



Suggestion 2: Test the issue in Clean Boot mode.

A: MSconfig – Clean Boot
--------------------------
1. Click the Start Button and type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search Box and press Enter.
2. Click Continue to verify the permission.
3. Select the Services tab in the open window. Check the “Hide all Microsoft Services” option and click Disable All.
4. Switch to the Startup tab and click Disable All.
5. Click OK to save the settings and select Restart when prompted.



Note: Temporarily disabling the Startup Group only prevents the startup programs from loading at startup. This shouldn't adversely affect the system or other programs. We can still manually run these programs later.

1. Click the Start Button and type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search Box and press Enter.
2. On the "General" tab, click "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services".
3. Click "OK". Click "Restart" when you are prompted to restart the computer.

I say get rid of vista, It's just as worse as windows me was. I say upgrade to windows 7

Do a system restore in safe mode. Its your only option from here..

0x8007043c error means your trying to do something in safe mode thats not able to be done in safe mode.

If system restore doesn't fix it, then reformat and start fresh

Cant do a system restore...may have to re-load windows but I dont have the recovery disk, FML.

I work with some computer geeks who knows more than I do. I'm sure they have a copy of Windows 7 or a better Vista pro I can have.

take red281gt's advice. throw vista out the door and get windows7. would never even consider going back to vista after using 7. vista was cool when i first installed it, and didn't really mind it while i used it for about 1.5 years. but since i have been using windows 7 for the last 6 months or so i can tell a huge difference in the two. windows 7 is a lot smoother and less troubles.

I dont have enough memory to run Windows 7 at the moment.

I have a 1 gig stick in the laptop but its split and showing I only have 816 mbs of ram. I run a 32 bit system...

At any rate...In a fit of rage after slamming my fingers on the key board during start up I found out this thing will start in Normal mode. I was then able to run windows updates. malwarebytes scan, AVG scan, and windows defender. To my dismay this didnt fix any problem...

This stupid skank on windows help emailed me another thing to try out but that will wait until I get off of work today. I will try a clean boot but that didnt work out last time but there is something else for me to try.

MSINFO32. She wants me to send that too her after I run a copy of my system files. hopefully they find the corrupted file and I can fix this POS. I'm willing to bet that if I upgrade from my current Vista premium to Windows 7 I will have some issues.

You can run 7... It's alot easier than vista is to run. It shows 816mb due to your on board graphics card sharing some of that memory.

If you can get it, upgrade.

okay, I'll rephrase. I meet all minumum requirements to run Windows 7 except I dont have enough RAM. My laptop has a 1 gig card but its being shared so I do not have enough RAM to run the Windows 7 upgrade.

First, I need to get this OS working before it gets upgraded with anything. I dont have a problem with adding another 1 gig of memory.

which version of windows vista are you running. basic is the only one that has a minimum less than 1 gig of ram. upgrade your ram and lose vista trust me. it sucks compared to 7. if you are running vista you should be able to run 7. you could also get a cheap video card to free up your ram to 1 gig.

edit: your ad says you are running windows vista premium which calls for 1 gig of ram. if your running vista premium you can run windows7
