Man, I just got some horrible news

On new years I got a instant message from my friend Ted that said he was arrested. I was like ah shit what did he do now. I asked what happened and he said that he hit someone knocked them out and they were in the hospital. My friend isnt a huge muscle fighter type guy I guess he just got a clean hit in. This guy he hit is a friend of mine as well. We'll call him Tom. Tom worked at his girlfriends bar and lived with her. He did security but on the night of the fight he was there just to drink and have a good time on new years.

I worked with Ted and hung out with him my last 12 months in germany. I knew Tom and the bar owners for the 2 years I was stationed in germany. These people were my friends even if they did serve me drinks and food.

Today, I was informed that Tom died from his injuries. He was 35.

wow sad story, your friend Ted is in deep shit, wish him the best

Ohhhhhhh that sucks. Sounds like your friend that hit the guy is in some serious trouble though.

NewMustangMan 01-12-2010 03:45 PM

Dang that sucks. sorry for your loss. Agreed Ted is in big trouble.

TUFF 4.6 01-12-2010 04:12 PM

Damn man, sorry for your lost

stanger00 01-12-2010 04:37 PM

Yeah, Ted is screwed. I havent heard from him since the 1st.

I cant believe this happened someone dying from a little bar fight, unreal.

Badfish 01-12-2010 05:01 PM

wow. dead from a clean hit? that's highly unlikely. Ted must've done a little more punching than he led on..but what do I know.

sorry to hear that.

xxlranger 01-12-2010 05:26 PM

Tom most likely hit his head when he fell. If Ted got a clean KO shot in, Tom wouldn't have reactively broken his fall. A boxing ring or an octogan are relatively soft, flat surfaces, free of debris. Bar floors are not.

I am sorry for your loss.

zigzagg321 01-12-2010 05:27 PM

Sorry for your loss, and sorry for Ted, Im sure he never intended to kill Tom. No one expects a bar fight to end in a death.

Its possible that Tom could have had an aneurysm in his brain that was ruptured by the single hit. Right place on the head, its possible.

stanger00 01-12-2010 05:33 PM

I just found out when Tom was hit he didnt break his fall. So when he fell down his head took the impact.

rebelyell 01-12-2010 08:52 PM

That's sad news bro. If your head hit's most anything unprotected with enough force, it usually ends up bad. Just falling off a step and not breaking your fall can cause enough impact for brain swelling then usually death. Try to remeber though, It wan't anything you could have done about it.. But Ted will bare the consequences of manslaughter at the very least.. Unintentional death. Prosecuter may go for the Murder charge though. Sucks for everyone, specially the families of those 2 :(

Damn, man. I'm sorry about all of this. You didn't lose one friend, you're going to lose two if they decide to prosecute Ted for Tom's death. Poor Tom and Ted. :(

Yep, probably involuntary manslaughter or something. I don't think it was intentional, either.

Yep. That's exactly what I was thinking even before I read your post. I watched on "1,000 Ways To Die" that some people live their whole lives with an aneurysm and never even know it. But, certain circumstances can cause them to rupture.

Autopsy studies have revealed that 3-6% of adults in the United States have aneurysms inside their brains. Fortunately, many of these aneurysms are small and not at risk to break. The rates of aneurysms found by accident when other studies are performed suggest that 8-10 million Americans have brain aneurysms. About 20-30% of people with an aneurysm will have more than 1. Each year, for every 100 people with an aneurysm, roughly 1 of them will suffer a rupture or break-a condition known as subarachnoid hemorrhage.

This same exact thing happened to a cousin of mine. He got in a fight with a guy in a club and the guy went into a coma then died. He got charged with murder though.

Sorry to hear about that. I'm sure he never intended for that to happen.

JackThe Ripper 01-13-2010 01:40 PM

Jesus man im sorry to hear about it.

thats one of the reasons i absolutly refuse to get into a bar fight. I dont give a shit, they can taunt me, call me a pussy, etc, whatever. Im not so worried about getting beat up or anything, im worried that if i nail the guy with a lucky hit this exact thing will happen, that guy dies, and the rest of my life ruined over something stupid.

At first I thought this was a story about Ronnie from Jersey Shore!

Anyway, I'm really sorry this happened.
