I need to update my pc...

8 years old... 512MB RAM...80GB HD... Pentium 4

I found a computer with no monitor (dont need one) for $350.00.

It has: Pentium Dual-Core E5300, 4GB RAM, 640GB HD, 2.66GHz...DVD burner...Windows 7... 1 year warranty with in-home service.

is that a good deal? is that a shitty setup?

Anyone know of somewhere to get more/better for the same price or less?

Im not looking for the most badass computer...Im just trying to upgrade and my budget is $350.00, I dont even need an OS...I like windows XP and have the discs. Dont need peripherals either...just the tower.

Switch 10-29-2009 05:50 PM

It doesn't seem like a bad deal. I'm seeing similar ones for around $400-430 with identical or similar specs

It's a Dell

My current pc is a Dell...its never failed me.

Deathdiesel 10-29-2009 08:18 PM

Where you getting it at? My computers 5 years old but it has been re-programmed twice cause of viruses. Plus it was a shitty computer to start.

lol...been havin me sum cable intronetz for like 8 years now, I guess its about time to get a pc that can use the fast connection.

rebelyell 10-29-2009 11:21 PM

I hope I can get by with just getting a new video card. I have an invidea 7300, and I want to get the newest version, just not sure if I can use it with P4 3.40 ghz.

krenogin 10-30-2009 09:35 AM

depends on what ports u have in your pc. but u need to upgrade that p4 to see a benefit out of upgrading to newer graphics. AMD has a quad core for 100 dollars u can build a system with it for cheap.

And to that pc above for 350. Thats a pretty good setup for the price. It would handle gaming okay with a nice graphics card. But you would be CPU limited in most cases. I'm still CPU limited and im running a X2 6000+, i need a phenom II X4 and ill be rockin!

am I missing anything?

Both options are above $350, but I think both are overall better than what Dell would give me for $350, or even $600 for that matter.

krenogin 10-31-2009 12:31 AM

AMD has a 100 dollar quad core... Dont use any of those processors for your build, and as for powesupply, you need more wattage to be on the safe side an avoid your pc shutting off and never coming back on till you change PSU's. Other than that, pretty decent builds, the second build has a suckier graphics card. the 4550 willl EAT a 7200 and spit it out, so the lower configuration will outdo the more expensive one in gaming. many many many factors in computers.

x04V6x 10-31-2009 12:32 AM

I would just stick with the Dell set up, that's a great price and great specs on the comptuer too. I would buy that right now because it's such a good deal, but my current comptuer stills runs 100% smooth and fast so there's no need to upgrade yet.

zigzagg321 10-31-2009 11:39 AM

I bought the dell... 440 to my door, couldnt build one as good for the money.

Core Duo 2 CPU, 2.93 MHz, 1066 FSB, 4GB ram, 640 GB HD, Windows 7. Intel MOBO with onboard audio/video (i dont play pc games)

x04V6x 10-31-2009 12:16 PM

Hell yeah, that's a good ass deal.
