Would you by a car that was totalled
 

I am looking at an audi (tommorow) it's a 2001 A6 2.7t with 72k on the clock and the carfax says that the car was in a front end collision with moderate damage. but the insurance company totalled it

From what I can see the car is in great condition now and I will be testing that when I test drive it tommorow (i'm going to punish it to see if it's ok)
the price is pretty good if the car has been fully restored I'm pretty sure I can get it for under 7K out the door I know it will hurt the resale but as far as I'm concerened if it's in like new contition with no odd sounds I will buy it tommorow.

Asking for trouble, not to mention the fact that you'll never be able to sell it, at least not for what you might need out of it eventually.

never buy a rebuilt car....you never will truley know the quality of workmanship for one and it is worth next to nothing resale.

I really don't care about resale. I have also worked around cars enough to see if someone did a half assed job or not I'm not going to buy a piece of shit.

I just want to be clear that I'm not dissing any of you guys opinions it's just that if this thing turns out to be a car that had a collision that wreaked some body panels and broke some headlights and maybe cracked the radiator while leaveing everything else alone. The accident happened in 08 and you better believe that cosmetic damage of that scale to an audi that old can add up to 70% of the total value when brought to an audi certified mechanic.

I respect what you guys have to say but I'm still deffinatly going to check this one out cause it's only about 45 min from me

i bought mine out of the junkyard and did all the work myself,, all ive did to mine was put an alternator on after a year or so. mine got totalled mainly because of the airbags. but there are nitpickings that you may find out if it were a bad wreck like allignment and it eating tires up, but mines been good in every way. id say go for it. IF you do plan to keep it, i never want to sell my car.

i vote no. atleast not with that car. if it was like a rebuilt cobra or something it'd be worth it because id keep it for a long time. you're better off finding something cheap that works 100%

I'm saying that I would keep this car for a long time hence the "I don't care about the resale value"

Normally my budget would not allow for a twin turbo v6 but in this case it might

Oh yeah and a $600 chip will have the car putting out 320 hp and 380 ft lbs

my feelings are probably different when it comes to imports... domestics tons of parts everywhere especially if its a mustang. if i need anything theres a junkyard down the road with a mach 1, 4 v6's, and 1 rear clip of a GT. all 99-04. so, if i need anything, its down there for cheap. thats why its okay for me.

The car looked pretty fair...ish The paint was great the bumper fitment was however..... iffy. The wheels has some serious rash and dings

The interior was imaculate. The black leather was spot less

The motor was damn good and that thing could move unfortunatly it had a bit of a tick

Big problem areas were that the ABS and TCS did not really work. Brakes sucked

The major issue was the steering it was like jello (not joking)

the cars allignmet was great but the car felt squashy and unresponsive when it came to the way that in handled.

In a way it sucks but at least you knew not to get it and now you can just continue to look. You will find something soon!

I have a 99 ranger 4x4 with over 190,000 miles on it that I bought after it was totaled. Then I found out the guy I got it from got it from a junk yard, so it's ben totaled 2 times. I've drove it most every day for the last 3 years and the only thing I've had to do to it was a water pump and both front wheel bearings.
