Lets play Doctor

Check this out. Started as a rash 3 weeks ago, out of the blue, Tried to self remedy it with caladryl lotion. ( thought it was chiggers or poison ivy). No help there, Tried neosporin ( thought it maybe was a chemical burn from work), It was looking worse after that. Tried Cortizone cream 1%, that helped but didn't clear it up. It's to the point where I'm worried and gonna go get a real diagnosis. I also have a similar rash on my shoulder and top of my arm, but not as bad. I get pretty nasty at work with nylon glass filled dust and it was hard to keep it clean..

Anyone wanna take a guess at what it is? I got an idea or 2 but I'm done trying to self diagnose it.. I'll post what the doctor tells me tomorrow..

Oh yeah BTW, I'm 49, and this came on real sudden, only on my left arm,

It was hard taking this pic also, LOL,.

holy shit. go to the doctor. that's defenitely something you don't let go.

Switch 09-09-2009 11:27 PM

Wow, I have no clue what that could be but I hope everything turns out alright. Let us know what it ends up being.

TUFF 4.6 09-10-2009 05:18 AM

Aint gotta clue but you shoulda had your old ass :D to the doc 2 weeks ago!
Good Luck!

Spider bite? could be a brown recluse, those things are nasty.

Rumblin_6 09-10-2009 06:31 AM

Get to a doctor A.S.A.P - that looks nasty!

01FR500 09-10-2009 06:32 AM

Are those black spots a result of the rash? Because those have a slight infection around them it appears from the pictures. I can't really see much of the rash. Those black spots are worrysome though. My boss had horrible flesh-eating something on her finger back in the summer that started out looking like a rash with a scratch in the middle. Damn near had to cut her finger off she let it get so bad. Not to worry you though, yours doesn't look anything like what she had.

the gillz 09-10-2009 07:12 AM

it looks like it could be a staph infection, so go to the doc and get some damn antibiotics they are 4.00 at walmart. You can die from a staph infection just to let ya know :smokin: either that or its the VD :D

They are nasty, but what Rebel shows in his photo is not nearly as bad as a Brown Recluse bite. If he got bit by one of those suckers 3 weeks ago, he would have a mass of purple dead tissue where his elbow used to be. Google images of 'Brown Recluse bite' and you'll see what I'm talking about. One of my uncles got bit by one at work and within a few days, he had a half dollar sized area on his shoulder that was just dead tissue. It was disgusting. He still has a scar from it. I'd take a Black Widow over a Brown Recluse any day!

I think Mustangrn would have the best idea as to what it is. I'm not even going to try to say what I think it is. Almost looks like you're allergic to something, but it looks like it is more serious than that. Let us know what's up and we hope you're all right. :)

PureStang 09-10-2009 07:54 AM

do you have a tingling sensation in your arm and a sharp shooting pain every now and then? also, is it extremely sensitive?

TUFF 4.6 09-10-2009 08:38 AM

Do you have the eruge to eat corn and fuck in the mud......................oh wait, thats the swine flu.............nevermind!

LOL, Your a trip. Good News, Doc said it was some poisonous plant like ivy or oak. he gave me some corticosteriod pills to help clear it up. I thought I had shingles for a little bit. I feel better knowing WTF it is now.. Thanks for all the input. The ole rebel lives to see another day.. :p

SnTBakosFinest 09-10-2009 11:38 AM

Good. At least now you know it is nothing really serious. Good for you for going to the doctor. :)

Me, either! I have really sensitive skin. I am allergic to baby lotion. So I'd be scared to see what poison ivy or oak would do to me. Looks like Rebel may have been itching the hell out of it, which made it even more red and inflamed than it would have been if he would have kept his hands the hell away from it. :p

Glad you went to the doc, but not entirely sure I agree, those are some nasty angry looking sores and I'm sure the steroid will calm it down. Keep a close eye on it and if it doesn't show some serious improvement in the next couple of days go back!!! You definitely don't want to let that go.
Take care and keep us posted.

Agreed, that looks more nastier than just a poisonous plant. Like ^ said keep an eye on that and if it doesn't get better go back.

Good to see you went to the doctor.

SnTBakosFinest 09-10-2009 03:20 PM

And do it before your arm falls off.

First thing I thought of was possibly having a sore there, and getting some flesh eating bacteria..forget what the name of it is..dad had it once though..

It's called "necrotizing fasciitis", and it's beyond nasty!! Google it when you don't feel like eating for a while.

Yea some reason i had the urge to look at that...wish i hadnt. Also yeah some reason that doesnt look like any plant rash..

rebelyell 09-10-2009 06:08 PM

it started as a bad rash, but I get black nylon dust from work all over my arms most days. I think that it just got imbedded in there. And there's no pain, but it looks better than last week. The redness has improved and it's drying up. Doc said absolutely no peroxide, which is what I was cleaning it with. He said that I was washing away my immune system's response to this and making it worse than better.. Dammit. Either he's full of shit or I'm not as smart as I think I am. I'm guessing it needs bacteria to help it heal.. This was at my urgent care facility and I think he was PA, But he seemed confident in his diagnosis and his prescription.. I had poison ivy when I was young only once and it is hard to get rid of. I was more worried about sitting in the lobby with sick people than my arm.. :(, I dont want to fck in the mud unless I have to..

Lol...nice..And yeah poison ivy isnt that bad, i get it atleast once every two months.

TUFF 4.6 09-10-2009 06:44 PM

We all hope that that is what it is and it continues to get better.

rebelyell 09-10-2009 09:11 PM

Thanks everyone, for the support. I'm already feeling better. That nasty scab in the middle will work itself out. Still not 100% comfy with it, but I'll take my medpack as it says to and work through it. I've had many nastier looking stuff than this, but I knew what it was most times ( my thumb from last year was a top 10 ) It's still numb, and I can't pick up any thing sharp without worrying.. :o

As long as it is getting better, that's the most important thing!! Your doc is absolutely right about the peroxide, it goes against what most of us seasoned folks were taught, but it does more harm than good. It kills all cells including the ones that are getting rid of the bad stuff. Gentle soap and water are the best along with some neosporin to keep it moist, a dry cell is a dead cell.

As far as the mud, good choice!!

Thanks for your input, I escpecially feel better now that you said that, because I would have thought the complete opposite, my uneducated guess is exactly that, and I would have still said BS unless someone like you said otherwise.. I would have used 2 bottles of peroxide and maybe some iodine to help clear it up.. I'm a "put a bandaid on it and keep on going" type person.. I gotta be more careful.. :)

Helped me out with the huge inner ear zit thing I had last month...god that thing was disgusting...

Also, my doc said I coudln't put neosporin on my surgical scab thing.... :( now i'll have a scar next to my unit...
