Tired of being home

Well, I haven't worked since the start of august..

Due to what I do for work, and the hernia I had, I was placed off work because the doctor and surgeon were worried that if I continued to work, I may lose my right testicle..

So, I have surgery, but now I'm off work until October 8th for recorvery..

I thought I'd be cool, I'd have a lengthy vacation and be good..

Thing I didn't think about was the fact that since I've been 16 the longest period of time I've been off work has been a week, and that I don't have SHIT to do outside of work.. so now I'm going nuts..

So..anything GOOD to do while off work and limited to lifting anything and/or moving around? I'm getting good at xbox, but that sucks, and I'm getting lazy..

Maybe I'm just ranting cause I'm bored...

Lazerred6 09-03-2009 07:51 AM

I don't know what to tell you man I'm the same way i've had a steady job since I was 16 and maybe once a year take a week vacation.

hang in there

wildride02gt 09-03-2009 07:58 AM

I hear ya man. Been unemployed for two years now since the VA bumped up my disability. My knees and back are garbage, so I had to stop wrenching. All I can say is hang in there man. One nice thing is the house and car are always clean, and my XBOX gamerscore is insane now, LOL. Try to just chill and enjoy the time off, man. The boredom will come and go.

Slim03GT 09-03-2009 09:21 AM

My cousin seems to spend ALL of his time playing WoW. Not sure if your into that kinda stuff but it seems to make him a zombie to society.

SnTBakosFinest 09-03-2009 09:27 AM

I don't wanna play WoW, because like you said, it makes you a zombie..and if I get another game..I think my fiance might actually kill me..

Im going out today, screwit. I miss the shop and my mechanics lol, plus I need to go to best buy..and theres a good handwash place that does a nice job here in town..

Since I can't wash my car without being in pain, I guess I'll let them do it...LA fires got ash all over my car..

I'd love to go to the track tommorow night, but I don't think I'm ready to walk that much, and I don't know if my body can take a hard launch yet lol...

Lazerred6 09-03-2009 09:37 AM

I played WoW and then I got married and stopped...... Then I started again and now my wife plays too lol

Have you ever tried a California Car Duster? Thing works awesome on dust and dirt. However, I don't know how it would fare against ash. Probably just smear it around. It isn't strenuous to use, either.

I do know what a real pleasure it is to actually have a job, especially in this economy. I might bitch and moan about my job from time to time, but the truth is that I know and understand how lucky I am to have one, let alone one that I really, truly like. The longest I've went without a job was a week and a half, and I went stir crazy in that time. I don't know what I'll do to keep my sanity when I retire because I will be so bored. I'll have to take up a new hobby like skinning cats or something just to pass the time.

Yea but it also sprinkled some, gave me spots, I like having my plastic stuff nice and shiney. My wheels were filthy from the track..so I just got it washed.

Then I went and saw my mechanics, check out the Ford Maverick they picked up and are going to throw a little Boss 302 in and fix it up...

Went to bestbuy... got a new charger for my camera and a cat-6 cable for my xbox to router..

And for Tuff 4.6: I'll bitch until I get to go back to work! I hate being home lol.. And I LOVE my paychecks..nothing better then knowing you got the cash to go do something :p

Aren't you an electrician?

Maybe you could spend your free time and learn a little about PLC's. Much better to deal with twisted shielded wires, and sit at a computer on site rather than dig ditches and pull wire :-)

I'll take a full course in PLCs my 4th year. Right now AC Theory, Combination RLC circuits and Highpass/Lowpass filters and Bandwidth are the things I'm worrying about, lol.

For real?! I just got a job this month...and it's the first job I've had since November of last year. And it's not like I wasn't looking for one either, I put in over 450 applications in that time. Just how the times are I suppose.

As for down time, I'm always looking around online for stuff for the car...regardless of if I can afford it or actually intend on getting it and all of that fun stuff.

rebelyell 09-03-2009 10:45 PM

I was on medical leave in 1994 for 6 months, Then on medical leave in 1995 for another 6 months, I couldn't wait to get back in 95, because mainly I was only getting half my pay. I was 35 years old and my job was very important to me. Now I'm almost 50, and we've had some 7 day work weeks lasting for 6 months out of the whole year.. This year not as bad went 28 straight days without a day off.

Anyway If I could take 6 months off right now I would not hesitate, even at half my hourly wage.. I would not get bored enough to long for the concrete jungle.. Maybe my mind and my heart would want to be back. But my body would say, fuck work, go swimming or play Wii.. :smokin:

Yep, for real. That was over 2 years ago, so it wasn't hard for me to find another job at that time. I quit my old job and planned on looking for another one the same day that I left, but my dad convinced me to take a week or two off because once I started my new job, I wouldn't be able to have a vacation for a year or so.

Lucky me, I didn't have my '05 at the time... or I would have been online looking for stuff, too. :p

And congratulations to you for getting a job, Nick! How do you like it so far? :D

SnTBakosFinest 09-04-2009 07:06 AM

Not a whole lot more I want/need to do to my car or even browse for really..

I always at least browse for stuff. Never know when they'll get something new that I might like. Only things I have left now are debadging, supercharger and maybe GT500 chin and rear spoilers.

I should be like you and just not look. Then I wouldn't be so tempted to buy shit. :p

doobie 09-04-2009 09:32 AM

when i browse for things i end up buying them. im not buying anything for my car because its a V6 and strictly a DD for getting me through college. but i bought a DSLR last year and have been progressively buying things for it and now i just decided 5 minutes ago that i'm going to the apple store tomorrow to upgrade my laptop. *sigh* who wants to buy my macbook!

edit: and i just bought a freakin les paul last night :P

yeah but yours was also down for a while when it blew up. i cant afford to have mine do that because its used to drive 60mi+ 5 days a week or more

r3dn3ck 09-04-2009 02:13 PM

grab a .22 and a box of 500 rounds go to the range. No effort, no recoil, lots of instant gratification and it's cheap as full days of recreation go. Or, you can always call up your homies and have them over for Tapas and Beer.

Lol, thought about taking the .22 out..but I really, REALLY wanted to be dove hunting.. either way, I can drive now...so all is well..

I did fuck myself up yesterday though, rolled right out of bed onto the ground, that hurt.

I can understand that! when someone loses a job I tell them to try and enjoy it because you know it's not going to stay that way. Unemployment is a real bummer if you don't see anything in the near future. Having a J-O-B is really nice if you like what you do.

Rumblin_6 09-05-2009 07:14 AM

Tired of being home (for me right now is an understatement!) I have been off since the end of November last year.

I litterally destroyed my shoulder and had to have major surgery but because it took close to $40,000 in MRIs and other scans:mad: and the fact that no one could really figure out what the hell was wrong, I lost my job:mad:. They tried to help me by at least keeping me on the books but after 7.5 months of what did you find out, "oh, they still don't know?". They had to let me go. And now I owe close to somewhere in the neighborhood of $200,000.

I think that now the worst part of it is now I can't find a job because I have to have a set down job which within about 200 of my house (where I have been looking they just don't exist). I have put almost 1,500 miles on my car (with in a month and a week) putting in applications, following up leads and trying to not bug but follow up in person - thinking that if they see that I really want the job, they might give me one. I have also been sending e-mails and resumes. I have had a few job offers but with absurd offers as far as pay. I am getting sick of being offered sub minimum wage. One place offered me $3.10 + team bonus (which basically translates into) if one guy or gal on the team decides to screw you over and not do any work or you get a slug on the team you are screwed because you don't get a bonus for that week. I have also had sub minimum wage offers (which as despirate for money as I am I would jump on) but the only places I am getting return e-mails or calls from are more than 50-60 miles and eventhough gas is cheap I would essentially be working for free.

As much as I know (I have been warned) that I can't go back to a strenuous job I at this point might. Although the risk is really insane. If I screw it up again the doctor said I would have to have either a 3" SS Pin drilled in from the ball of my arm into the socket to perminately affix the shoulder which would further limit my movement or I would have to have a brand new arm from the elbow up.

But I am trying hard to keep from putting myself back in that situation becuase the first surgery was bad enough and I still have 75% nerve damage and about 45% of the original movement I had before.

We that is my soap box for the day.At least I get to go to a free Moody Blues concert tonight with my best friend.:beerchug:

To everyone else hang in there, It will get better - at least I hope!!!

SnTBakosFinest 09-05-2009 08:03 AM

Holy shit dude that sucks.. sorry to hear that..

Tape 09-05-2009 10:32 AM

Rumblin_6. you need to apply for ssi, you will be denied of course but then you get any attorney and they will take your case without question, cost is nothing until, when the government sends your check they will give the attorney his cut then you keep the rest, it will take about 2 yrs to get through the red tape so you need to get the ball rolling, you should have done it 8 months ago, that way you would be half way there by now.
