Anyone with Yamaha PWC Mech Experience?
 

I have a 2002 Yamaha 1200 SUV. I bought it thiss spring with 70 hours on it....has 80 now.

I had the compression tested when I bought and it was perfect. Unit is exceptionally clean and runs great. BUT....

Sometimes from a stop, it will bog like a son of a bitch from a dead stop. This only happens at full throttle. If I slip into the throttle, it will no bog at all. If is it fully warmed-up, it seem to run fine, but I notice it bogging the most after it has been ridden and then you stop for a while and then get back on it.

Is this normal? It is a 2 stroke.

I had an older 1997 Seadoo that I remember doing the same thing (I think) a number of years ago.

Well, i have no experience there, but sounds to me like a plug may be fouling out and it cant burn the gas that the reeds are dumping into the cylinder so quickly. its also quite possible that something may be stuck in the reed valves keeping them slightly open. theres not much that can go wrong in a 2 stroke. and im sure u know not to spray ether or anything into the cylinder because it will kill the lubrication, so look into new plugs as a start. My banshees a 2 stroke, and it has power even when the reeds arent kicked in (powerband), and when they do hold on for life.

That's a carb problem I would bet. Most likely you just need to take the carbs off and rebuild them. Its pretty easy to rebuild those carbs on those things.Hard part is getting them out of there. If it bogs when going to WOT I would bet the pilot jet is clogged or partially clogged.

I called a Yamaha service center....they told me the same thing today. $500 fix if they do it. I may look into it and try to fix it myself over the winter. For now, I will just continue to use it...seems to work fine if you ease into it a bit. There is only a few more weeks left in the summer for me to use it anyway.

Yamaha sells a cleaner called "Ring Free" its really good for getting the carbs cleaned out. When I got my Yamaha Vstar 1100 the guy who had it didnt ride it for a year and left the gas in it. So needless to say the carbs were screwed up bad. I took them apart and rebuilt them and ran a bottle of ring free through it and its awesome now. You might be able to just use the ring free which is a gas additive and get away with it.

Probably wopuld not hurt.....might as well check with my service guy.
