Cars with the cheapest operating costs?

So one of the family members is looking into getting a different car here soon.

I was wondering what cars/Cross overs had the lowest operating costs.

They are interested in

Honda
Accord
CRV

Toyota
Camry
Corolla
Rav4

Subaru
Impreza (non STI, WRX model)
Legacy

and thanks for your Input.

But please no arguing about which cars are better or which cars are crap cars etc etc. This thread is just purely for gauging how much each car would cost to operate and what would be the cheapest nothing more.

The Accord FTW!

Mother in Law has drove nothing but a Honda since the 70's and they all have lasted for way over 200,000 miles. They sold an 05 Accord to a lady here in the area and it now has 300,000 miles on it and still runs great and gets over 30 mpg.

If your in texas why do you need awd? I just sold a 96 civic with over 212000 miles that ran like a son of a bitch. I vote honda hands down.

Toyota Camry, not to mention those things last forever.

Dave04Mustang 06-09-2009 07:30 PM

Accord

Dodobird223 06-09-2009 10:59 PM

+1 Accord. My mom's is a 2001 with 130,000+ miles. She never had a single problem. Only ever had it in the shop for regular scheduled maintenance.

Camry. The equivalent to the accord but with the toyota touch.

My fam just prefers toyota over honda--no specific reason as to why I prefer 'em.

I personally like Subies, but when they break, they break hard and that boxer engine is a PITA to work with. That said, either the Hondas or the Toyotas will keep them happy. Stay away from the CR-V or Rav-4. Unless they are brand new, they are trash.
