Yay for the statute of limitations (what have you guys done)
 

2 years ago in May me and a buddy of mine may or may not of stolen a car of a value less than $400 which in MI is considered petty theft and a misdemeanor and due to the S of L I can no longer be prosecuted

The car was abandoned when we "stole" it I'm not that much of a jack ass


Some one on here has to have a good story so don't be shy guys.

Had a gun stolen from my car 7 years ago by a guy I was about to buy a car from. Didn't notice for weeks that the gun was missing (I had 160 at the time... easy to not miss one). He's a felon and gets caught in posession of the gun. Cops tell me I should go ahead and report it stolen if the guy doesn't have my permission to have it. I report it stolen dutifully. The guy calls me trying to convince me to "un-report" it stolen because he's a felon, and stole my gun and got caught with it and he doesn't want to go to FPMITAP. Threatens to tell the investigator that I sold it to him (which he does eventually try). Now I have successfully waited out the statute of limitations and I can go back and get my gun. Had to wait the 4 years for the totally unlikely charge of providing firearms to a felon (by leaving it where he could steal it... love the Peoples Demokratik Republik of Kalifornia) and 5 years for filing a false report if he was ever willing or able to try and testify against me and lie in court to say that I sold him the gun that he actually stole. That way if he tried to pin some charge on me it'd never stick. Worst part was I had to spend about 4000 bucks on legal counsel for that... and I didn't even do anything wrong. When I originally went to buy the car from him (including a possible partial trade for a pistol) I saw the whole deal as pretty hinky and walked away... with all my guns or so I thought.

I had a nasty weapons and ammunition habit for a couple years there and the nasty fortune of working on weekends and nights for a local gun shop. When I passed 2 million rounds of ammo in a 2 bedroom apartment (a decade ago) I decided it was time to diversify my locations. Now the collections span 6 safes, 3 states (down from 4... economy forced me to liquidate some toys), 2 bunkers, 1 annual visit from ATF.

The extreme bulk of my collection is in a bunker I haven't been to in something approaching 15 years and is composed of generally visually uninteresting shotguns, double rifles and such. On the upside, I just finished rounding out my Glock collection yet again. They came out with a small frame version of the 20 and 21 so I hadda pickem up. Got the 20 today. 15 rounds of .41 magnum power, backed up by 15 more, and another 15 more. Guess that qualifies as a really big gun that holds a lot of bullets.

BTW... when the end of the world comes (ETA, 16:20hrs, 12/23/2012) please make sure not to miss my 11:30am looting class.

yeah... :( it's a PITA but inevitable. The nitty on that is, when I was actively collecting I had a penchant for interesting things. I wrangled a full set of non-full-auto US, British, and German infantry arms of WWII, all the glocks (and that was sort of the genesis of their visits), one of each of the best 1911 variants (Kimber, Wilson, Les Baer, Springfield, blah blah blah), a collection of S&W unfluted cylinder magnum 6" revolvers, all manner of other interesting bits like a Feather AT22, Grendel P12 and so on. Not your everyday random collection. A targeted grouping of quite useful and interesting pieces... character studies in arms if you will. But I digress....

At many points I'd buy a gun just because it was a good trade item and I'd know someone that was looking for that so I'd buy it where ever I saw it and do the transfer to one of the other guys in the Wrecking Crew at the local shop (think of them as gun shop groupies). However when you legally transfer pistols your name goes on a paper trail and if someone does something nasty after you transfer it to them, then the ATF gets notified as a matter of course. I've bought and sold literally hundreds of guns, some for reasons above, others because I just didn't want them anymore or needed the cash. Sell that many and your name comes up a little often so you get the occasional visit. It's a courtesy call for the most part but I keep all my records straight for them in case they need help with the paper trail in a prosecution. It's weird... the good guys get hassled the most.

Are any of the ATF guys gun nuts and think your collection is totally bad ass
