For those who don't know...

A good buddy of mine, John Baker (pictured ahead of the pack in the first picture below) who races out at our local speedway was seriously injured in a violent accident at the track yesterday, May 30th. I wasn't there, but I heard that he was turned into our turn two wall (which is an un-padded cement wall) and then slid into our pit entrance wall (pictured on the right in the second picture below). He was then airlifted to a Denver area hospital and put into a medically induced coma while they do some tests on his brain and back areas.

All I'm asking for is if anyone has a heart, that you please pray for this man. He is a great guy who will help anybody with anything without asking for anything in return. He's also very active in the racing community (like I said, helping people and such), and is a very involved family man. We're all hoping and praying for his quick recovery and that we can all see him hit the track again very soon.

Sorry to hear that bud. I'll put him on the list. Keep us informed of his progress.

SeanStang 05-31-2009 11:46 PM

Sorry to hear man, hope he recovers soon.

Steeda97 06-01-2009 03:49 AM

Sorry to hear that. Hope he gets better!

i hate drivers that intentionally wreck, doubly so if they injure a driver like this. i would talk with the person that did it if it was me.

King 06-01-2009 04:06 PM

It wasn't intentional. These guys race five wide in the corners most of the time and on a 3/8mi with 38 cars, things can get ugly fast. This is typical racing for the Legends series here...

That's on the backstretch. The racing lane in the turns are about half that size and they still go five wide.

Anyway, as of today there are no new updates on John's condition. His family is being very private about this matter (which is respectable). But I will post an update as soon as I hear one.

PistonsFan102 06-01-2009 06:33 PM

I'm hoping for a full recovery.

-UPDATE-

I had hoped to be able to provide more positive news about John’s condition however at this time there has not been a lot of change since he left the track in the helicopter, as of this post he has not regained consciousness and has suffered a closed brain injury (swelling of the brain), he also suffered a broken left clavicle (shoulder blade) and some broken ribs. His official condition is listed as stable but critical condition; he is in a local Denver hospital in their ICU. There has been small improvements in his condition, but with this type of injury improvements are slow so not much has changed. Anyway, I will update his condition the next time I hear anything in regards to it. Until then, keep praying.

The Legend cars can be pretty damn quick, and on some tracks, REAL quick. Not much there either for protection. I too will put him on my list, and hope for a speedy recovery. :t:

John and his family will be in our prayers. Hang in there.

-UPDATE-

Again I come to all of you with the same guarded optimism, there has been no major changes in John’s condition the improvements that he has shown have been small and slow but with these types of injuries this is not unusual, his family and friends remain positive about his improvement as I hope you all do.

This weekend our sportsman division (which simply put is like an asphalt late model class with more limited power) will be donating all winnings to the Baker family in their time of need. Again, I ask that everybody remain hopeful and keep those prayers coming. Hopefully he'll wake up soon and improve enough to the point where he can come back out to the racetrack and hang out with the racing family again. Anyway, that's it for this update. Keep the prayers coming!

Will do

98wusstang 06-13-2009 09:05 PM

Glad to hear it, and will do as well.

King 06-13-2009 10:28 PM

I forgot to mention that he has still not woken up, however the swelling of his brain is going down some.

LilMissLayla 06-14-2009 02:29 PM

Oh man... :(

Glad the swelling is going down some and that he is still alive.
