Harsh Realization
 

Sometimes when I'm driving I sort of lose myself, and today that happened at a most unfortunate time. It was a reasonably nice day, no rain for a change, I had spent field day with my son and done some shopping. I pulled up to an intersection that has poor visiblity at best and now the roads need to be mowed and it is a busy time of the afternoon.

I waited for what looked like a reasonable opening and gunned it as my car crept into the intersection....that's when the horrible realization struck ......................................... HOLY SHIT I'M NOT IN THE STANG!!!:eek:

As the cement truck bears down from the right, I hear his brakes engage and jam my foot through the floor, my mazda hoopty some how realizes she's in a fight for her life and something kicked in....she finally picked up some speed. And with a ginormus cement truck almost in my back seat, I continued home to get a fresh pair of underwear.

If anyone know a cement truck driver with blue eyes and tribal tat on his left forearm, tell him I'm sorry.:D

Happens to me in the girlfriends car. I was DD one night for some friends, drove one of thier suv's, thing fuggin sucked, barely made it up to highway speeds before daylight. Glad you didn't get hit by that cement truck, a lot of mass right there.

Yeah I guess thats one lesson, I mean I would have gone with drive responsibly but sure why not.

Hmm I'm tempted to say Gaadaam women drivers, but I don't think that's the case here, Just be more mindful of the roads no matter what car your in.. We all have to share responsibility on the roads, BTW that Mazda shoulda wound up pretty quick. What model is that?? :rolleyes:

Nope, it's a 626 but it's a 2001 with only a 4-banger, so it's pretty gutless. It was the first day in about a week I had driven it and the mustang would not have had a problem jumping into traffic. Unfortunately the Mazda doesn't know what jump means.

Try going between a motorcycle and a truck...the acceleration difference is downright painful and my Explorer has pretty good pickup. LOL

When I drive my 4 cylinder Mustang, I hate it. It seems like it takes forever to go. No matter how hard I press the pedal, it just won't move! Because I am constantly frustrated that my 4 banger seems like it is pushing a dump truck while it is accelerating, I don't really have a problem reminding myself that I am damn near 200hp and 200tq down from what I have in my GT, haha.

I mean thats kinda the thing though, you shouldnt (and im not really telling you how to drive) just 'jump' into traffic. It should always be clear enough to allow any car you drive to get in.

I cant tell you how many times ive almost been hit by someone just trying to 'jump in'. Im just saying though, dont take it personally.

I'm not taking it personal but that is a load of crap. You can't honestly tell me you drive exactly the same regardless of what you're driving. I bought a mustang because it is fun to drive and gorgeous to look at. If I wanted to drive like my some 80 year old blue haired great-grandma, I would have bought a buick lesabre and called it a day.

So go give the drivers ed class on the buick forum. :D

I bought my mustang for the same reasons too. But I want to keep it for some time so I drive defensively. You seem like an offensive driver to me.

There is NO way you can say that you have NEVER used the quickness of your mustang to merge into traffic or to get out onto a busy road. We ALL have done it. Yes I agree with the jist of your statement and all. . . . I just dont agree with the part where your acting innocent and and just "SO" perfect. Get over yourself bro.

You misunderstand me. I definately have before. What I am trying to say here is that I dont agree with the moral of her story as it were. She said the lesson learned here was to know the power of your car. And I am trying to say the lesson should be drive safely.

And part of driving safely is knowing the ability of your vehicle. Less horsepower means less ability to merge quickly into traffic therefor you must give yourself more time between passing vehicles. I've done it a couple of times in the Stratus R/T, thankfully it does have some power and can get itself out of most situations.

You seem awfully high and mighty, not to mention judgemental for someone who didn't witness what happened and really has no say in the situation in the least.

The point of my story was that I had gotten so used to driving the stang and had gotten so relaxed on the highway, that when it came time to turn I took the opening that would have been a piece of cake for the car I was accustomed to driving. Frankly, I found it quite amusing and thought some one else would get a laugh out of my blonde moment. Never considered on this forum that anyone would get all driving instructor on me. I'm not an offensive driver but I am an aggressive driver. I don't buy into the defensive driver crap. I won't live my life in the slow lane. And I am an ER nurse so believe me I know of what I speak. Most of the MVA's are a result of alcohol, drugs or just plain head-up-the-ass.

meh I just like arguing. I actually did it today on the way to work lol. Im such a hypocrite.
