Why buy a KR if they're not legal for road use?

I meant to ask this last week.. When I was looking at the KR sitting at the Ford dealership, the salesman mentioned to me that it is not legal for road use. The window sticker on the KR I just looked at online said the same thing (see link below.) So why buy one if you can't legally drive it on the road? It's a cool car, but having something so expensive as a track-only car doesn't make sense to me, especially since it doesn't do so well in the handling department.

That's a pre-KR dealer sticker.

Car comes from Ford with no VIN, the VIN is put on the car after the mods are done by Shelby and shipped to the stealerships. :)

So, before it goes to Shelby to be modded, it's not "street legal." After the mods are done and it gets serial, vin numbers, etc. It is.

Ah.. Maybe the salesman was thinking of that then, because the one sitting at the dealership was a completed unit from Shelby.

They're actually more street-legal than S197's considering the emissions put-out is actually lesser than base GT's.....

I think WN was right on the fact that that is the sticker they put on while it is being sent to Shelby.

That'd be so sick.....I'd ask for a ride.

The ACR Viper isn't street legal with the front splitter installed.

A lot of our cars aren't legal for road use. How many people on this board have off-road midpipes? A lot.

True. But they were when you drove them off the lot. Not quite the same.

Does it make a difference? People are just saying omg why would you buy a kr if it's not legal for road use, but those same people are already driving cars not legal for road use.
