Damn Hamster
Ok, i know i am becoming the king of off-topic posts, and this is not gonna help. Maybe ill get better once i get my mustang again.
I need some help. My wifes hamster escaped. I have 2 dogs and it is possible they ate the hamster, but i doubt Jager could catch it, and Malibu would probably just kill it and toss it around. I havent seen it, so i dont think they got to it. I found a little corner piece of the rug in my basement is torn up. I think it is new. So he is probably down in the basement. I have been looking for non-kill traps, all i can find are dinky things that are meant to a tiny tiny field mouse. Ive checked albertsons, safeway, target and home depot. Does anyone have any MacGuyver-esque trap making techniques? im thinking of taking a deeper piece of tupperwarte or something that is at least 8 inches deep and smearing some peanut butter on the bottom and hope he falls in to eat then gets stuck. also gonna leave his cage open and on the floor in case he decides just to go home and get some sleep. fuggin hamsters. the last thing i needs is him to die in my vents. ugh |
Just get a fishtank ex and have a few tubed or paper towel tubes together with peanut butter in the tank or box with some peanut butter on top of folded paper so it will jump down but fall further because the paper will fall under the weight
|
My friends hamster has gotten loose a few times. And you wouldn't believe how fast those suckers can climb stairs even.
Good luck with the search. |

Lol.. my husky got ahold of her once, tore her half open. The damn thing somehow managed to survive the attack. tough little bastard.
|
Rofl let my cat have a go at him! Stray black cats FTW!
|
I had two hamsters and one of them ate all the feet off of the other and slowly let it die. So I named him Hannibal.....it seemed to fit. Silly little bastards they are.

Chris, you could go the the squirrel catcher route...sounds stupid, I know. But if this thing is still alive, this would be the number one way to catch it I think.
|
ha i lost a hamster once and found it a month later alive and well in a box of cereal in my pantry

be a man and build one. ;)
let the hunter/trapper in you out. |
I had 3 hamsters at one time, while i was a kid, they escaped all the time but usually go back to their food supply. I had one crawled up my covers and crawled on my gaddamm face while I was asleep. Scared the hell out of me.. Remember they are nocturnal so they will be active at night..
They will need food eventually but the one thing they have to have is water. Hamsters can't live very long without it. Keep a water bottle nearby and you should catch the lil bastard.. :smokin: Also Hamsters are rodents but they are way smarter than any mouse, they can escape from just about any cage you put them in.. They will literally open the cage door if given enough time.. |
I had a hamster that escaped. I didn't see him for well over A YEAR.
I was sitting on the computer and I saw something scurry across the kitchen floor. It was the size of a gerbil. Apparently the thing had been eating the cat food for a year. It grew to twice its size. It hid in the basement. It was ridiculous. We finally caught it like 2 weeks later with a laundry basket. lol. |
We had a hamster once, crazy ass little psycho bastard, you couldn't even feed the damn thing without getting bit. And I mean blood drawing down to the fuggin bone bit
He escaped once and my son (5 at the time) found the dog and cat playing catch with him. He burst into the room screaming OMG THEY'VE KILLED REX!!! Sure enough he was laying in a lifeless heap in floor between my 60lb puppy and tabby cat. Feeling bad I went over to scoop him up and give him a decent funeral, as soon as my skin made contact the crazy ass bastart came to life and took a chunk outta my thumb and hung on. Then he got slung into the wall at a high rate of speed, which left a grotesque hamster shaped blood splatter. Now that he truly was unconcious, my boy picks his bleeding and broken body up and puts him to bed. Never doubdting his mom the nurse would make it better. Damned if his little furry ass didn't get better!!! His parents finally missed him so much they came to take Rex back to farm so he could spend time outside like real hamsters do. |

Got the little bastard.
He got into the laundry room in the basement and managed to get himself stuck in an old aquarium that we used to have a salamander in. thank god.. he is a fatass hamster, if he would have died in the vents he would have stunk up the whole house |
Snakes make way better pets. Corn snakes are the best because they dont bite. Or its VERY rare unless you scare the bejesus outta them. Ball pythons are pretty decent too but a little more scary because they are harder to read.
But then again half the time I dont know if my corn snake is going to try and bite me or not lol. I will put my hand in the care to pick him (or her I guess, no idea and dont care) up and Im not sure if he is going to try and bite my finger off or give me kisses. Glad you caught the bastard though. |

Thing lived for like 6 years. Never got out, either. Her name was Pepper and she was cool as hell. I don't really have any weird stories about her. She was one of the best behaved animals I ever had. I can't recall her ever biting me or anything like that. |
