Canon Digital Rebel XTi

Here's the best part, it was free....and this is how I got it.
Last Sunday was my birthday, and I was looking around for deals on a Nikon D40 because I planned to buy one later that week, I was looking at a $600 kit with 2 lenses, tripod, case, SD card and other random stuff. There's another forum I frequent called militaryphotos which has a lot of military people on it, and an offtopic section with threads about cars, current events, photography, all kinds of random stuff. I posted in the photography thread about the deal, and then I got a private message from someone I talk to on the forum. In his message he said he could give me his old Xti since he doesn't use it anymore. No strings attached, nothing in return, he just wanted to give it to me.

Now, I know absolutely nothing about this guy, other than he's 20, a great photographer, has some extremely wealthy parents (he drives a 7-series BMW, huge house in Tennessee), and likes cars. I don't even know his first name. So I really had no idea what to think, I told him that would be amazing and I'd appreciate it if he would; but there was doubt since obviously you wouldn't expect someone to just give away a $550 camera to a stranger on the internet. I didn't ask him for anything, he offered it to me, sent it off and told me happy birthday. It doesn't matter to me how much $ this guy has or whether or not it's a big deal for him to just give away big stuff like this to strangers, but the fact that he did just blows my mind...I'm not usually the person to accept free charity without repaying it, but I don't know his name, and he even put down someone other than his owns' return address; so all I can do is thank him through the internet. Something like this really makes me feel good, knowing there really are people that'll just help someone out in a big way, and expect nothing in return.

Needless to say I'm pretty fucking happy and grateful right now, saved me a few hundred bucks, which now I think I'll spend some on a few of my friends who could use some help

Now that your so camera rich........... I could use a good camera, feeling philanthropic? J/k That is amazing that someone you don't even know would just give you a camera. Some people are just that way though. They have everything they need and just enjoy helping people out. Puts a warm spot in your stomach. I guess the guy would rather be able to smile an know that he made someone elses life better, than had some money from selling the camera. Your really lucky Kevin, must have done something good.

Congrats, Pee! Now take some damn pictures! :D

Some people just have good hearts, I think. Not to thread hijack, but I have a similar long story.

My fiance and I went to St. Petersburg to see my sister. I picked my sister up and went to her dad's house (she is my half-sister) because I hadn't seen him in years. We got there, went inside, talked to her dad, and her dad's girlfriend came out, and my sister warned me that she was a total bitch and then some. My sister and her do not get along. I had never met my sister's dad's girlfriend or her kids in my life. My sister, her dad, me, and my fiance left to go to the beach for a few hours, just to spend some time together.

We went to a gas station to get some drinks. Fiance and I stayed in the truck. We left the store and halfway to the beach (Fort Desoto), my fiance realized his gas tank lid was open. We pulled over, only to find that someone poured sugar in his gas tank. My sister's dad was fucking livid. He knew that his bitch of a girlfriend or one of her kids did it. He called one of his friends who owns a tow truck business and are mechanics. Within 20 minutes, his friend and his friend's father were there with us.

These people, who we also didn't know, towed us to their shop which was about 20-30 miles away for free. They took off the bed of the truck, drained his gas tank, cleaned all of the sugar they could out of it, replaced the fuel filter and some other parts, for free. We had to stay the night in St. Petersburg because we were literally stranded. Even though they didn't know us, these kind people took us into their home. They fed us, let us stay in their guest bedroom, and took care of us while we were there. We didn't have to spend a cent. They did everything for us. Even bought our food.

I was literally so thankful to them, that I just wanted to cry. After I had the misfortune of dealing with my sister's dad's girlfriend and her horrible delinquent children and them trying to sabotage the property of someone they had never met before, meeting these awesome people who helped us made it completely worth it. I couldn't believe that there were people in the world who really had golden hearts. I had never had anyone be that nice to me in my life. I still talk to them, too. I still don't know how to thank them. Sometimes, there just are no words.

Pee, he probably doesn't want anything in return. Some people just like helping others. A simple 'thank you' to him may be all he needs to hear to make his day. :)
