tech help please!

Alright, I need some help. I'm trying to get to my school's website www.ppcc.edu but every time I try a Page Load Error occurs. The site works on EVERY computer I've tried, including my phone! I really need to get to this site to do some online assignments, but it wont fucking work on my computer! I've tried IE and Mozilla. It also works on my moms computer downstairs which is obviously the same ISP. help!

Your link worked on my computer at work

Astray 01-22-2009 12:50 PM

You are in luck, ok first thing I want you to do is wipe out your temporary internet files. In Mozilla you go to "Tools" then "Clear Private Data" do the same thing in IE, "Tools" then "Internet Options". If that doesn't work I have some more stuff for you to try.

Badfish 01-22-2009 12:58 PM

didn't work..

Astray 01-22-2009 01:02 PM

You are sure you cleared out all of it? Offline content and the temp files? If thats the case go ahead and restart the PC.

Astray 01-22-2009 01:05 PM

Alright, if that doesn't work. Open up a command prompt

Go to "Start" then "Run"

type in "cmd" then hit enter

While in the command prompt type in....

ping www.ppcc.edu

and also tracert www.ppcc.edu

As neatly as possible paste the output in the forum =)

Badfish 01-22-2009 01:14 PM

alright when i tried ping www.ppcc.edu it says

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping stats for 164.47....etc..

Packets:sent = 4 recieved = 0 lost = 4 (100% loss)

I'm trying the tracert now..

Badfish 01-22-2009 01:20 PM

with the whole tracert thing it tried 30 times looked like this for all of them

* * * Request timed out.

* * * Request timed out.

* * * Request timed out.

* * * Request timed out.

* * * Request timed out.

* * * Request timed out.

Type in "ipconfig" and tell me what you get

What I've got from that information so far is that you can't even establish a network connection to that site, you may just need to flush out your DNS cache, a restart should have fixed that but *shrug* its Windows.

Before you do ipconfig type in,

ipconfig /flushdns

This will wipe out all of your cached DNS info and "hopefully" fix the issue, because obviously its most likely not a network issue since I assume you are accessing this forum from the same computer the problem is on.

Badfish 01-22-2009 01:32 PM

the ipconfig /flushdns gave me a response of "The requested operation requires elevation"

when I do ipconfig I get a lot of stuff. what are you looking for in particular?

Bwhipple 01-22-2009 01:43 PM

Are you on Vista ? Goto all Programs/Accessories then right click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator then give it a shot again.

Badfish 01-22-2009 01:46 PM

that worked. and so did the flushdns. but the site didnt work :( I gotta go...but I'll be back

Astray 01-22-2009 01:51 PM

Yeah you may have to run "cmd" as administrator if you are in vista to get results

as for ipconfig the information I really needed was your IP address and the gateway IP

Bwhipple 01-22-2009 01:57 PM

Sounds like your IP might be banned from the website for some reason. Maybe a mix-up. I'd wait 24-36 hrs and check to see if it still doesn't work. Then I'd e-mail the web developer to check whats up.

Have you gone to that particular website on that computer before ? If not it also might be an issue with the subnet mask in the router.

Um if it were me the two things i would try are:
check your firewall for the blocked pages and see if that is the problem, also check your anti-virus

if that does not work to see if its an IP adress time out, look up the ip on your moms computer, and then change yours to the adress to see if that works.. (but i don't think that will matter because the IP adress getting sent to them is the one of your router, only after the router does it make a difference by changing your ip adress)

Check and see if you have gas in the tank :D:D:D

yes, turn off your firewall and run a Tracert again. i'm willing to bet that is the main culprit, cause EVERYONE can access the page but you.

Astray 01-23-2009 09:15 PM

Yeah whatever the problem is its on your PC, otherwise trace route would have made a few jumps.

King 01-23-2009 10:41 PM

Fish, when you cleared the private data was the cookies box checked?

Badfish 01-23-2009 11:08 PM

i've tried everything. still no luck. :(

Astray 01-24-2009 08:28 AM

Well dude all I can say is its on your PC somewhere, either a firewall or a bad route thats cached in DNS, because on trace route the packets never even made it to your router...

Snap, but I do got one more idea, its a long shot though. Go into IE, Internet Options, then go to the Security Tab I believe or which ever tab it is that can allow you to add www.ppcc.edu as a "Trusted Site".
