Car buying question

Hello everyone!

OK, so I'm looking to get rid of my '95 V6 and go for some V8 muscle. I found a 2000 Mustang GT that with 69,101 miles. I emailed the owner and they said the car is in a good condition, no scratches, no damages, never been implicated in any accidents, no problems at the engine, runs very well. On the listing, it says the car has a grill delete, mach 1 chin spoiler, sequential tail lights and hood struts, B&M short throw shifter, free flowing exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, Comp Cams XEA262 a sniper tune and a BBK Cold air intake. Custom paint is the Bullit Dark Highland Green.

Now, it sounds awesome so far, but the listing price is $4,250 firm.

I think even if I get it and it needs a new clutch/flywheel, I'm still getting my money's worth..?

What do you all think? (sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in).

$4250 seems like a really good price for a car with that low mileage. However I wouldn't consider buying a vehicle I haven't seen...to be honest it seems like too good of a deal, but I guess it's possible. The new clutch and flywheel (through AM) will run you maybe $650-$700 max. If you're not much of a mechanic, ask if you can take the car to a mechanic you trust so that they can evaluate it for you. And if the mechanic is trustworthy, base your opinion on what he says.

Have any pics?

Yeah, it does seem low, but I mean, it looks great. I would go and check it out before I buy it and see if I can get a little test drive.

Also, owner claims SHE got a divorce and took ownership of the car and doesn't have a drivers license as the reason for selling.

Seems super cheap you need to check it out. Get a carfax on it for sure.

Not entirely sure if I buy that, but it's possible I suppose. I bought my first car (1997 4runner) for $100 thanks to the previous owners divorce.

Anyway, it's definitely worth looking into. Carfax for sure.

You need to go see it in person and drive it if you are considering buying it. That seems like a really cheap price but since it has thoes mods I bet it's been driven hard. But by the same token the driver may have taken good care of it like most of us, drive hard but care alot for the car. Take a look at it, see what your gut says when you sit in it.

jseven 12-01-2008 09:37 PM

are you really sure? I have those on my car and have never seen 'em on an SN95...

Stephen4036 12-01-2008 10:09 PM

those arent sn95 GT wheels

King 12-01-2008 10:39 PM

Yeah, those are not sn95 wheels. Similar, yes, but not the same.

go look at it, make sure there are no liens on the car, make sure her name is on the title. you don't want to pay her for a car she doesn't own, and then have the real owner come one day and take it back. if that happens, pretty sure you have no grounds of ownership.

get the car looked at by a shop. have them look at the transmission, engine, suspension, etc. depending on what is wrong with it, you may still want to buy it from her at a reduced price.
