Buying used exhaust?

I recently found some guy located near me on craigslist who is selling SLP loudmouth 1's for 300, and I got him even lower on the price. He claims they are in "new" condition and have only been used for a short period of time. Is it worth it to buy used exhaust? I dont know much about it, but I figured there cant be too many things that can go wrong with exhaust. Let me know what you guys think.

No issues as long as they arent rusted or anything.

My H-pipe I got used along with many other pieces. There is nothing wrong with used parts as long as they are in good condition. Buying used parts is the smart thing to do if you ask me.

Its stainless steel so should be no problem. Go for it.

I second what Spike and Venom said. Go look at them first. If the welds are in good condition and nothing looks beat up, go for it. SLP is excellent quality stuff, so it should be okay.

there should be no welds since the exhaust is all band clamps.

I'm not talking about the exhaust holding itself together. I'm talking about the hangers that are welded to the exhaust so one can install the exhaust on the car. Those hangers should be welded, if they are there.

Ok so I talked to the guy I'm buying them from. HE said theyre in new condition, its the whole cat back system, it was in the car for "3 weeks", its dissembled and ready to go, and he said "the hangers are stainless steal and welded the hangers that are going with the car are the necessary tail pipe hangers". Does this all sound good? I know little about exhaust. Will I need to purchase anything else or does the whole catback system take care of everything? thanks for the reponses

Should be able to jstu bolt it right up.

dingchavez65 10-30-2008 07:06 PM

The pipes. For example, in this picture are the SLP Loudmouths I have on my '05.

See those little 'L' shaped things coming off the exhaust? Those are hangers. They should be welded to the pipes themselves.

No. But, if they are in good condition like he says, you will not have that problem. Like I previously said, SLP has excellent quality exhaust products and if those welds are broken, he literally beat the hell out of them.

Ok thanks for the responses and the help, hopefully ill pick them up today and all goes well.

ok the new exhaust deal worked out great and the stuff is in great condition. it did come with custom hangers, (attached to the original welded ones), for a special fit or something. However these are ford OEM hangers and even still have the tags on them. I was wondering if I can install the system myself or not even bother. It looks pretty straight forward, and half the pieces are bolted together already. Will I need to do anything crazy like cut through metal to remove the old exhaust? Or can I just put it off and put the new stuff on.
